Our away form

Before start of the season I thought if we wanted to stay up Bramall lane would have to be a fortress for us. Maybe it’s actually our away form that could keep us up? To play Bournemouth, Chelsea, Everton away and come out unbeaten with 5 points is a fantastic achievement. We look really hard to beat away from home and we seem to be a lot more clinical. Now if we can just sort our home form starting with Liverpool Saturday UTB

Definitely best to make ourselves tough to beat away from home, the downside being of course we see very little of the ball.

Don’t want that to become a habit, would rather we trust our ability and try to play it forwards from the back rather than the long ball. I honestly don’t think we are very good at it. We don’t have to over commit, and can limit the overlapping centre halves for times when genuine good possession is held in the opponents third.
Still hoping we will settle in and the likes of Fleck and Norwood will go up a gear and we can bring back in the Duffy role. The forwards just look isolated without someone dropping into that role.

Yeah I agree. I really want to see Luke freeman as he’s been good in his limited time on the pitch. He seems to make things happen for us as did Duffy. It would be awfully harsh to drop Lundstram considering his excellent start to season but I guess it’s a good dilemma to have. If we are winning games he can play the tea lady in centre mid for all I care

It's amazing what happens when your manager is brave enough to try and take the game to teams on their own turf rather than go ultra-defensive and just be happy if you nick a point away from home. That and our defenders are beasts.

I hear you mate, but on Saturday we didn’t exactly take the game to Everton. It was a classic smash and grab. Not that I’ll ever complain about that though!

Chris Wilder has said as the season progresses we will grow into the league.

As our confidence grows we can expect better possession and good results on the road.

Saturday will be interesting. As our away results are impressive then should we set up as if we are away from home and invite Liverpool onto us.

You're right, but this is Prem now and you have to give Everton a lot of credit for how they held the ball and snuffed us out when we tried to get forward. That's going to happen more than a couple of times this season. Point is we don't have a special away formation, we don't make many changes to the line up or the system out of fear for the opposition. The side that played Everton was roughly the same as the side that's played the previous games. For most of the game we played two up top and Wilder brought a striker on who won the game for us outright rather than just clung on.

We've done it a few times in the past seasons where we've put Basham in the middle but the thing is when we've done that we haven't done it to stifle games so much as force more attacks through the middle. The big one being the Leeds game where, in spite of having put a "defender" in the middle of the park, Basham ended up getting two one-on-ones with the keeper.
