I remember Robson getting a great welcome before the 1st game. People were unhappy with the appointment but went with an open mind. As at every club, things went bad when results did, not the other way round.

I remember it as being a lukewarm reception after a very underwhelming pre-season. The plusses (at the time) were the signings of Hendrie and Beattie, and only one of those had any success.

As for results, especially given the general pessimism about his appointment, it doesn't help when you kick off with a dire 2-2 draw at home to Colchester, having just dropped out of the top flight by a goal.

This would be of no use even if he were any good given we now have no money.

Probably so, but the remit was to get back at the first attempt, whereby we would have had more cash now. Unfortunately, almost to a wo/man, we knew that promotion was a hell of a long way away as soon as his appointment was made.

Aren't the above two statements contradictory? The fans hounded him out, but McCabe was not influenced by the fans? It can't be both.

I think it makes more sense to say that King Kev I wasn't entirely influenced by the fans. There had been rumblings of discontent for some weeks before the guillotine fell. The opinion of most was that he didn't want to be seen to have made a mistake, and so gave Sornob as much time as possible. This for many was too much time. Ultimately, the craven home display v Scunthorpe was too much for us and him to take.

It would be a precedent if it was new. I fail to see how it was any different to what happened at the end of McEwan, Porterfield and Heath's reigns, to give 3 examples.

Indeed. Even the protest before St Harry left was relatively mild. Moreover, people were looking more for a change in the Club's control, than (just) the manager, hence the formation of BIFA around that time.
