It seems one of the hallmarks of Chris’ early recruitment was to go looking for players who were other team’s Captain or Player of the Year.

Here’s a look at the EFL Championship as to who ticks those boxes PoTY then Captain (League One to follow):
Leicester City - Stephy Mavididi, Jamie V🐽rdy
Ipswich Town - Sam Morsy x2
Leeds United - Ethan Ampadu! Liam Cooper
Southampton - Adam Armstrong, Jack Stevens
West Bromwich Albion - Cedric Kipre, Jed Wallace
Norwich City - Kenny McLean, Grant Hanley
Hull City - Jacob Greaves, Lewis Coyle
Middlesborough - Rav van den Berg, Johnny Howson
Coventry City - Ben Sheaf, Liam Kelly
Preston North End - Alan Browne x2
Bristol City - Rob Dickie, Andi Weimann
Cardiff City - Perry Ng, Joe Ralls
Millwall - Ryan Leonard! Shaun Hutchinson
Swansea - Carl Rushworth, Matt Grimes
Watford - Wesley Hoedt, Daniel Bachmann
Sunderland - TBC, Luke O’Nien
Stoke - Bae Jun-Ho, Josh Laurent
QPR - Steve Cook, Asmir Begovic
Sheffield Wednesday - Barry Bannan x2
Blackburn Rovers - Sammie Szmodics, Dominic Hyam
Plymouth Argyle - Morgan Whittaker, Joe Edwards
Birmingham City - Jay Stansfield, Dion Sanderson
Huddersfield Town - Michael Helik, Jonathan Hogg
Rotherham United - Viktor Johansson, Sean Morrison

League One:

Portsmouth - Conor Shaughnessy, Marlon Pack
Derby County - Curtis Nelson, Conor Hourihane
Bolton Wanderers - Josh Sheehan, Ricardo Santos
Peterborough United - Harrison Burrows, Ephrom Mason-Clark
Oxford United - Cameron Branaghan, Elliot Moore
Barnsley - Adam Phillips, Jordan Williams
Lincoln City - Lukas Jensen, Paudie O’Connor
Blackpool - Karamoko Dembélé, Chris Maxwell
Stevenage - Carl Piergianni x2
Wycombe Wanderers - Freddie Potts (loan WHU), Joe Jacobson
Layton Orient - Ruel Sotiriou, Darren Pratley
Wigan Athletic - Sam Tickle, Josh Magennis
Exeter City - Viljami Sinisalo (loan Villa), Pierce Sweeney
Northampton Town - Marc Leonard (loan Brighton), Jon Guthrie
Bristol Rovers - Antony Evans, Sam Finlay
Charlton Athletic - Alfie May, George Dobson
Reading - Lewis Wing, Andy Yeodom
Cambridge United - Liam Bennett, Michael Morrison
Shrewsbury - Carl Winchester, Chay Dunkley
Burton Albion - John Brayford x2⚔️
Cheltenam - Liam Sercombe, Sean Long
Fleetwood Town - Jay Lynch, Brendan Wiredu
Port Vale - ???, Nathan Smith x2?
Carlisle United - ???, Paul Huntington

I think the last two were too ashamed to announce though it did look like Arblaster would have been in line if he’d stayed at least for young player there.

Of interest maybe, Viljami Sinisalo is a keeper at Villa who swept the boards at the PoTY awards for Exeter and had 13 clean sheets. Possible Hendo type loan?

Sam Tickle, another keeper that is young and well thought of but would be a buy.

Lukas Jensen is a 25 year old keeper who had an impressive 19 clean sheets. Was with Burnley.

Harrison Burrows has great numbers in goals and assists from left back and has also captained. Might be a tough call if he’s gettable or we stick with RND.

Freddie Potts, a defensive midfield option at West Ham you’d expect might also be looked at. At 20 they’ll be looking for a Championship move for him.

Marc Leonard, 5 goals and 6 assists in 46 matches with no reds, on loan at Northampton from Brighton.

Cameron Brannagan seems to have been ready to step up for some time now. It feels like he might this year. Double figures for goals and assists now the Play Offs have begun.

Katamoko Dembélé seems to be realising his potential after Celtic. Maybe he could become a no 10 for us?

Anyone catch your eye?

Brannagan always seems to be the best in league one but no one ever seems to take the risk on him. Scores and assists every year.

Says it all when Hourihane is there for Derby just how poor League one is.

He was captain rather than Player of the Year but take your point. It’s more a minority than majority to pick out.

Brannagan had a release clause in his last contract of £1.2mi. I'm sure his current deal would have the same. He badly wants to play in the Championship and he's more than proved himself at League One level. I'd love to see him at the Lane. He gets better every season and I think he'd be worth the gamble for that fee, as well as him being an ideal Norwood replacement.

Mentioned Wesley Hoedt a few times. No surprise at all to see he's won Watford's award. He would be a massive upgrade on Trusty, and an upgrade on Robinson too

It's impressive that Kipre won WBA's. I think he's out of contract, and only about 27. Like Hoedt, he's another solid, physically dominant, no nonsense CB of the type we need and could play middle or wide CB

Why ?

What’s happening to Norwood

I think players like Jacob Greaves, Sam Morsy, Szmodics, Whittaker & Burrows would be great signings but out of our reach financially & Morsy won’t leave Ipswich this year.

I think Stansfield (loan), Helik, Browne, Grimes, Brannagan, Sheehan & M Leonard are all realistic out of that list and think would be a good addition to our team.

We need to find another Jake Wright and Paul Coutts

If only it was that easy , every club would be doing this !

Has to be Bannan then .

Great work getting all the info!

Ive been banging on about this lad on here for a few years now. Tidy player and would excel in the Championship. If course, we would rather do the lazy option and bring in players who are consistently injured or just plain shit.

Hope that Mitchell doesn't see this thread. He will be set up for another 10 years at his next club if he does.

He's had a career best season this season after getting better and better over the last season or two. If Oxford don't go up then a Championship club will trigger that release clause this summer, no doubt. If we can spend £2mil on Grbic then £1.2mil+ for Branagan is a bargain and a steal.

Top marks for pulling the info together but we do realise that the majority of those players if not all of them would either turn out to be shite or injured after a month if their lucky.
It's the Blades way atm.

There’s some absolute shite in that league one list, it shows how large the gap is between league 1 and Championship for me.

Some of the younger players might be worth a punt if they can be had for little money but I’m sure some of our fans will want Brayford back!

He's mustard

Sam Morsy.....we fans were impressed with him when he played for Chesterfield against us at the lane in 2015. 32 now and gets a shot at the PL.
Player of the year at Chesterfield Wigan and Ipswich. Mr Mitchell couldn't spot a player on our own doorstep. It's a few of this type of player we need. Obviously younger types. Can play can defend and for a small enough lad he gets stuck in.

Get the right characters in who fit the system and you will find improvements with some of our current players. Have a system have some leaders have a go.

Surprised no one higher up has took a chance on Longstaff at Notts County. Seems to bag a fair few goals
