Coppell, Curbishley, Souness, Strachan.
Of these apparently Coppell and Souness are no longer interested in managing but Curbishley and Strachan are available. The Englishman has a better win ratio. if West Ham don't re-sign might be an option. I'd welcome him and think he'd work well with Pemberton. He also has a tendency for longevity which might suit McShade.
Despite the doomsters I think United need an immediate injection of optimism, with one goal - Promotion. Forget stabilisation, grab League One by the balls and damn well go for it. Also go for the Johnstone Paint Trophy. Why? Because winners breed winners and United are very good at losing. If we won the JPJ it might help in the play offs! Look at teams that have won it. They consist of a number of clubs that do win play off finals.
Consolidation can be done back in the Championship.
