just think good thoughts and the lord might just help you on your way

Can I just say how well you appear to have "gone native" since your move to Liverpool Judge.

Do your Frank Spencer next.

It never ceases to amuse me how god is just called 'God'. That is just so lame. That's like having a cat called 'Cat' or a gerbil called 'Gerbil' or naming your offspring 'Human'. Why couldn't the Christians come up with a name like 'Cyril' or 'Cedric' or 'Melvyn' even..?

At least the ancient cultures had some stonking names for their deities like Thor and Odin and Zeus. Proper names that you could also give to a Rottweiler without embarrassment. You wouldn't even call a Yorkshire Terrier 'God' without fear of ridicule down the park.

Still, I have a pet axolotl called The Tetragrammaton so I can't really talk....

Ah, but you assume that the Christian God was named after the generic concept "god". It could be the other way round. Maybe the Christian God was so all powerful that his name came to stand for all deities no matter what their given names.

Maybe it started with Anubis and some dyslexic scribe mistyped 'Dog'....?

Woof..!!!

God does have a name. In the Hebrew bible it is Yahweh, or more popularly Jehovah, although speaking his name is considered a sin, so don't read this out loud.

What I find a little more difficult is that 'God' is at one and the same time both a single deity, and a trinity of God the father, God the son, and Caspar the friendly ghost. Never did get my head round that. Athieism is so much easier to understand...

On your original point, my sister had a cat called 'Cat', mind you she did seem to get the poorer end of the DNA...
