I’d have him back tomorrow. He’s proving himself a very capable Championship keeper and would be great competition for Dean as opposed to the ‘cover’ we currently have.

Always liked George, never wrote him off but in honesty never saw him rising to the championship after his confidence got shot to bits. His move to Wimbeldon made him, and Grant McCann now speaks of him as a leader and future captain material. It would have broken lesser men or players, but it was the making of him.
Fair fucks George. Top lad, and solid keeper.

He was badly managed at United. He should never have been first choice when he was, he just wasn’t ready.

I could be totally wrong but I always felt there was pressure on the managers to bring through the kids that had reached the youth cup final. I recall there was even talk when Wilder came in of Binnion being part of recruitment in case we had a youth player we could bring through instead of signing someone. I think that soon got fucked off.

I was at Fulham in the cup under Adkins. He played quite a few of the young players, too many IMO, they needed more senior players to help them out. Subsequently they were shit. That was when I started to doubt Adkins.

3-0 down and we were shocking, so half the Blades were chanting "We're f***ing shit,...".

Somehow and with no thanks to Adkins, Wigan managed to throw it away and Billy played well to drag back the 3 goal deficit. That comeback from the death should have been a wonder turning point, but everyone who'd been knew it wasn't.

We were shit at 3-0 down and only marginally less shit at 3-3.

He was simply out of his depth at a club in turmoil.

Don't think there's anything wrong with asking the question whether or not there is a youngster already at the club, to fill gaps in the squad.
Only problem is the club needs to be prepared that answer would likely be "no" 99% of the time.

Definitely agree that there seemed to be pressure on multiple managers to play academy products in L1. Think your theory that the youth cup final appearance clouded the judgement of some of the senior figures at the club sounds about right.
