The comments from Bradford City fans on Twitter are a lot more favourable than the forums. Many describe him a a "club legend" and will be very sad to see him go.
So despite my own reservations I'm happy to stay on the fence for a bit. Players can often become completely different prospects when they move to another club. Let's hope we've got the formula right.

I'm happy to give him a chance. In fact, I think he's a good signing. He may not start every week but he offers something different which is important.

Hanson reminds me of Andy Carroll - not the most gifted technically, but you would rather he was on your side than not, because of his ability to change games.

A lot of people on here already slagging Hanson off before he's even kicked or headed a ball for us (assuming he signs) - give the lad a chance. I'm sure CW and AK have done their homework on this. He's certainly an aerial threat, which we really lack at times. Who knows, a change of club might be just the tonic for him and for us.

Every Blade will give him a chance! He isn't going to be booed on to the pitch for his debut.

I just think he is shit and not the type of striker we should be signing. It's just my opinion, I don't want him to fail.

I agree that Hanson will be a great option.

Sometimes we are too nice. Many of our players are small and lightweight.
The only "big lumps" we have are EEL and Occonell.

It's no coincedance that both have scored for us
And when we are desperate attacking a packed defence Wilder makes EEL play up front
And strangely enough just with EEL standing near their penalty spot causes panic.

Also we've had plenty of limited players in the past who have gone on to be popular cult heros.

Remember Wayne Alison? Warnock bought him in the twilight of his career.
He must have been 16 stone, built like a fridge/ freezer and was incredibly slow.
He played in the home leg of the cup semi final agaisnt Liverpool and was incredibly effective.
Sammy Hypiaa simply was unable to knock Alison off the ball and their defence went into panic mode.

Sometimes our football is too nice and pretty and we overplay trying to walk the ball into the net.
When ever there's goal mouth scrambles we are out muscled and rarely score.
So it wouldn't surprise me if Hanson helps solve the puzzle of how to beat teams that come to BL and park the bus defending deep in numbers.

In theory this looks a poor and unambitious signing. But you never know.

I'm taking hope from the Shipperley Precedent. As others have pointed out, on various of the Hanson threads, Shipps turned out to be absolutely pivotal to that promotion season, just by doing very simple things that allowed others to do their stuff more effectively around him. A limited journeyman, for sure. But in the end an inspired signing.

We don't need a team of 11 flair players. We need a team ....

Ok, I admit it, I'm trying to talking myself round.

Has a decent scoring record at Bratfud (1 every 3.5 games).. I'm guessing he's also helped create a few more.. hopefully his hold up play/flick ons etc can help get midfield runners into the box because the amount of goals coming from the midfield isn't good enough

The bottom line is that we've signed players in the past with good reputations who everyone has got excited about and who've been shit for us. We've signed unheard of players, and players no one really rated, who have turned out to be great for us.

So none of us really knows whether it will work out or not.

Based on our recent level of defending, I'll be surprised if many more teams come and park the bus because we look more vulnerable if teams have a go.

I do listen to fans opinions quite a lot, but if you listen to them all it sounds like that Leicester manager bloke knows fuck all about football, and he should be getting sent on his way this week.
Fans are fickle (and obviously have short memories) so maybe Wilder sees something that most blades and bantams don't.

How Hanson might be viewed as a United player is 90% dependent on how we use him. I think we know very well what he can and can't do, but the question is whether we play to his strengths and don't chuck away our existing style in the process.
Exactly this. It is going to require discipline from the rest of the squad. It needs to be drilled into them that we are creating many chances and corners with our current style. Hanson is on the pitch to finish a higher percentage of those chances, not as a focal point for long balls. If we can keep our discipline in this way I think we will be fine, and Hanson will score between 5-10 vital goals before the season is out.

Richard Cresswell anybody?
That was shit but in mitigation he'd made some comments previously about choosing the filthy bastards over us which hadn't gone down too well.

The difference in opinion between the Bradford forum and the Bradford fans on Twitter is bizarre

Richard Cresswell anybody?

Richard Cresswell, booed on his debut, injured by breaking a couple of ribs whilst scoring an incredibly brave goal for United a few weeks later, one of the few players who came out of the 10/11 with any credit as he kept on fighting for the cause when nearly everyone else had given up, and then in 11/12 was vastly under rated and under appreciated as his link up play and nous was instrumental in you know who scoring 35 goals.

Probably the player over the last 10 years who is the most unappreciated player we have had

Fair point actually.

But there was also the time I saw Stephen Quinn booed onto the pitch because his recent form had been a bit off. That was utterly shameful.

Completely agree. Regardless of his past he always demonstrated 100% commitment to our cause.

my first thoughts on hearing wed signed bobby davison , why have we signed that leeds has been
took 80 minutes to change my opinion

shows even I get it wrong very very occasionally

Hanson is a good league one striker, which is our current need
next season is next season
its a professional decision

we attack a lot home and away and get lots of corners
the more options matching big defenders the better

I'm gonna stick my neck out here.

Hanson has 4 goals this season at Bradford. He'll at least double that between now and the end of season. I'm gonna say at least 10 in total.

The amount of balls that we whip into the box is perfect for him.

I dont mean to be a dick and call you out on a little prediction, but do you mean 10 for us? Or 10 in total? so another 6 with us.
