Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been superstitious about football (and nothing else). Going to away matches with my brother and a group of pals, we used to walk from the railway station to the ground looking for ‘signs’, and a Coldwell Lane or shop calling Lewis’s convinced us we were going to win. Today we are finishing a holiday in Majorca (very nice, and thank-you for asking). Every time we switch on the TV the word SHARP fills the screen for about 30 seconds, but more significantly a bird-watching session today produced a great find. We were looking at a load of coots, when out of the reeds came a magnificent pair of crested coots, one of Europe’s rarest. Above its brilliant white beak and forehead it has (in the words of my bird book, lest you think me vulgar) ‘a pair of brilliant red knobs’. With Sharp and the rare, magnificent crested red-and-white Coutts on our side, the footballing gods have surely ordained victory on Saturday.

A pair of brilliant red knobs? Duffy to get a brace?

Gave up on being superstition after the 2012 Play Off final. Before that I'd make deals with the Footballing Gods before the match, give money to homeless people, visit elderly relatives, anything to build up the positive karma. Now I don't give a shit. Going to watch the game on Saturday in the "unlucky" pub - in fact, I can't remember seeing us win there, and can remember loads of Blades losses. So if we lose, it's probably my fault.

And just who was the Derby Managers most difficult opponent?

“While I’ve got every respect for the work Chris Wilder has done with his Sheffield United side, I’m glad I’m not facing Nick Montgomery in the other dugout because as everyone knows he was toughest opponent I ever faced.” – Frank Lampard, this week.*

Really?

Nowt wrong with pre-match rituals. A chilled 4 pack "at the ready" while donning the red & white is usually as far as I go but each to their own.

I’m presuming at S’Albufeira near Alcudia, did you pick up Purple Gallinule there as well. Always lots of Night Herons on the way in and Elenora’s Falcon if you’re lucky. I’ve also seen Crested Coots there. UTB

All of the above. The Formentor Peninsula has loads of Eleanora’s falcons right now, feeding their young like fury before migrating. I also saw a Bonelli’s eagle for the first time, at Mortitx, which you may know. S’Albufera is a brilliant place, saved from developers just in time.

Nice work, agree S’Albufeira is a great reserve and one that I’m also glad didn’t get eaten up by the builders. If you drive the road across the North from East to West I’ve seen Black Vulture near Lluc but it’s been a while and I know numbers are declining. Up The Birds!

I was bird watching on PornHub and saw a pair of Great Tits.

I took this to mean that Derby will be wank.

Come to think of it, I ripped the piss out of Bashar Al Asaba once as we got to the Kop entrances. We never usually get to the game at the same time, but on this occasion we did and he insisted on going through his 'lucky turnstile'. The only one he'll ever go through.

It's one of the wider ones, of course.

The black vultures are doing well, and still appear uncannily overhead at lunchtime when you sit down in the mountains and start eating a sandwich... If you pass that way again, the smaller reserve of S'Albufereta, just outside Port Pollensa, is developing well. And to keep the thread police happy, we have just got back home, and in 13 days in Majorca did not see a single owl, feathered or football-shirted...

I've just shagged a ram up the arse so we're all good to go.
Be careful when you read headlines. When it said 'MOUNT A RAM', it was referring to the signing by Derby of Mason Mount, not giving orders to commit acts of bestiality. You should be thankful that he didn't sign for Hull.;)
In view of the Derby result, I have given up superstition, for good, touch wood...
