You have to show respect as he’s the regular goalie for a decent football country (Sweden)
However there’s no denying that for us Olsen was average, he wasn’t exactly poor but wasn’t good either.
…he made good saves that any decent goalie should save….and let in goals where he had little chance

My concerns were he never made any great saves, in a short time even Wes Foderingham has pulled off some great saves for us
and also for such a giant goalie, unlike Jamal Blackman he didn’t seem to make good use of his height.

Our former goalie, the giant Blackman was poor at anything down on the floor but was great at catching crosses and any shots heading towards the top corners.
Blackman was 6ft 6, where as Olsen was 6ft 5, but you never had the same confidence that Olsen could command areas using his height.

It's been touched upon a few times but him being the Sweden keeper doesn't tell you much other than he's Swedish.

His rivals are the bloke who played 25 games over 5 games and was regularly in the stiffs at Swansea - Nordvelt and the 19 year old guy on loan at Donny from Watford.

I reckon Wes would have as many caps as Olsen if that was the competition!

I don't want to trash the guy but I do wonder about a few things.

If memory serves me correct he signed late on in the last window because he was holding out for potentially better offers (Top Flight clubs in Europe my guess)
Nothing materialized so he came here on loan, so we were never really his desired choice.
Whilst he's been here I'm sure he's tried his best but he hasn't really done anything exceptional and like a few have said played when we were overall defensively less solid too.
Villa come sniffing and he's off even though he will likely be back up and get little game time.
Pretty sure his agent and Olsen himself only ever saw this as a stop gap, which is sort of fine but sometimes you can be a fully committed stop gap in the likes of Henderson or currently MGW too.

It's his career and I guess given his time at Roma is up. Getting back in the PL with Villa he might get a chance should Martinez gets injured and then who knows but he's gonna get a reasonable wage whatever I'd guess.

a. Not to agree to terminate it before we have got someone else in, since doing so would disadvantage us for no reason

b. Some evidence that the person coming in has been properly scouted, is a good prospect, and isn't a last resort/off the top of our heads

I think a is 50% probability and b is around 10% probability, although you could argue b should already be in place because we should have been making serious inroads into getting a quality keeper when Ramsdale downed tools
