It’s interesting (to me at least) that the ticket only mentions Frankfurt in brackets, almost as an afterthought in case the purchaser needed reminding where the opponent came from. Imagine us going to Germany and the ticket saying (Sheffield) United 🙂

Eintracht means unity in German and is the closest football name they have to United although I can only think of one other German team that uses it, Braunschweig.

I wonder how such a friendly came about, it seems a bit random, I can’t imagine Eintracht were on tour during the football season?

I knew the name rang a bell so had to Google it, we played Maritimo at the Stadio Bela Vista in a pre-season friendly in 2018

😁

I’ve got one from the 1-1 at Portsmouth 1998 and the famous lineman incident, with the stub still on - dozy fuckers didn’t remove it.

They very much refer to themselves only as Eintracht. Here's the programme cover:

As for the game itself, it took place 2 days after the played Rangers in a friendly at Hampden (in front of 104,000) little over a year after losing the European Cup final there.

Match report here http://www.eintracht-archiv.de/1961/1961-10-19st.html

There are a handful of Eintrachts in the lower divisions of German football but you're right, it's not common when we think it probably would be.

They were, they played Rangers a few days before. For some reason they only had one game scheduled between the start/end of October, so went on a jolly I guess?

Bear in mind that at this time (West) Germany didn't even have a national league, the Bundesliga not even forming until 63, they only had a 30 game season in a regional league at the time

Now that spongebobblade has entered the game....

I need to explain that NONE of the tickets & programmes I have posted on this thread are from my own collection. Indeed, I don't have a collection.

I have taken the images from "a resource".
