Just had a message from a friend of mine saying that United and Brighton have finalised a permanent deal for O'Grady this morning and that it is to be announced very shortly.

Had a quick google and it has turned up this from The Brighton Argus newspaper but that is all I can see.

**Apologies I thought I had clicked on rumours as opposed to general chat.

Lets hope we can get this wrapped up before the weekend.

Were would this place McNulty though? Surely he now deserves a run in the team?

At the moment I can't see McNulty being left out Kev Gee, in fact I'd hope we'd see MM and COG playing alongside each other just to see if there's chemistry between them.

Based on goals alone McNulty has to be our first choice striker at the minute. O'Grady and McNulty up front could work in my opinion.

Alongside COG I hope! Nigel has said he wants to pair them together.

In any event, the perceived need to give Sparky a run (and I agree) should not be a reason not to sign a very good centre-forward (or two come to that).

Ultimately we need as many quality players as we get. If that means Sparky or Diego or anyone else has to fight for a shirt then bring it on. Success for SUFC is infinitely more important than a 'run' for a particular fan's favourite player....

.....'cept for Scoogs.....I ❤️ him, you know.

NC would have the option of playing them together and rotating them.

With so many Wed Sat weeks coming up, it is vital we have another top striker in. Any injury to MM, may have meant the end of our season.

In the recent interview and on the evidence on the pitch, Nigel likes his forwards to run their socks off. I do too, but that would mean tired legs over half a season with many Wednesday, Saturday games. Plus we are likely to have an extended season in the playoffs.

In that case, looks like COG for league, and MM for the cup. If we're out of the semi final after the first leg, then we can give MM a break for the second, meaning more league playing time.

I don't imagine Reed will be playing 90 mins on Saturday.

I can see that happening in the first paragraph of your post billy, but iv'e quoted this part of your post because if there's one thing i'm learning this season and that is to not second guess Cloughy.Don't be suprised if the lad plays mate,he has this uncanny knack of suprising us this season when the team sheets arrive before each game.

Too much fresh air High Peak! I like McNulty but he isn't the answer - not yet. McN and COG playing together might be something for opposing defence's to think about. Hope they can hit it off together because if we are really committed to promotion this year, the club has to find a striking solution to do something about our +3 goal difference.

Just a thought you fellow critics ;) I believe a certain Andy Johnson is without a club ! yes I know he's getting on but he could just be the spark partnered with cog and help with mcn and the younger boys till the end of the season ??

god I will get stick for this

Heard something from a mate, that Leon Best was on his way down to Brighton. Opening the door for O'Grady to leave

Brighton would prefer Best to O'Grady ?o_O. Maybe they're intent on joining us in League One !. Still as long us COG re-joins us who cares ?.

We'd get better value if we signed Boris Johnson.

I did actually think something along the same lines to provide similar to what Kev Phillips did Palace, but alot would depend on his fitness and contact terms.
I think he could be a real asset if he's fit, we need someone who is available to make a difference.

Hope you have a tin hat ready.

AJ's contact terms have always been that he reserves the right to go down like he's been shot if anyone so much as breathes on him within 10 feet of the penalty area. When the BadBuy juniors were little, we used to call him "Deep Sea Johnson". Makes Gerrard look like a paragon of virtue and fair play. Cnut.

I'd gladly have a fit AJ or Kevin Davis within the squad with the brain to go down if defenders make clumsy challenges on them. Diving is something else, but if they are impeded then they should be getting the foul.

Back to McNulty v O'Grady v playing them together. Perhaps it might be more simple than we think...

With our cup success already, potentially with futher fa cup games and not to mention the rearranged games from Christmas because of the weather/ cup success, we can pretty much assume that February and March will be Saturday- Tuesday games for most of the season to come.

So Clough could stick with his 4-5-1/4-3-3 and play one or the other. The job as the lone target man involves a lot of running and is physically demanding so Clough might end up rotating the pair, keeping the other on the bench and keeping them both fresh.

Sounds far fetched, but with so many games it might just be the best way to get the best out of them both

Can't be worse than Billy Sharp for that surely?

Yeah, and I get that. But Johnson took it to ridiculous levels, especially when he was younger. Some of his efforts for Palace make Ashley Young's for Man Utd look nuanced.

So is this deal still done? I havent had the chance to check up since yesterday at 1pm when it was first done
I always hold myself back from being a smart arse on here, believe me it ain't easy. I always think I should be a bit nicer since everyone on here is a blade.... Plus, judge will do it for me anyway ;)
