'Sheffield United have been credited with an interest in Rotherham United forward Chiedozie Ogbene. A report in the Irish Examiner claims the Blades, West Bromwich Albion and Belgian club Standard Liege are closely monitoring the player's situation ahead of the transfer window reopening in the summer.'

Didn't think he was a forward.

Be a good championship signing, replacing Berge on the right

Is he any good?

If we are going to do anything with the infrastructure then that needs to be a priority.

If so, then it goes without saying that signing players on a free with a bit of a signing on fee should form part of our strategy. The younger, the better of course.

Removing foreigners who have never played on these shores (though we will also need to entertain that group) players who fit into this group area to be:

Ryan Kent, 26
Nathan Redmond, 29
Chris Willock, 26
Chiedozie Ogbene, 25 (could have two dozies!)

If you think that we are effectively one Khadra light from the squad then we do need potentially someone like that.

Further forward you have:

Moussa Dembélé, 26 (Lyon, seems to have fallen off a bit)
Alfredo Morelos, 26 (might have contact in Spain already)
Chupa Akporn, 27 (might have a year option)
Jordan Ayew, 31
Josh Maja, 24
Rhys Healey, 26
Ross Stewart, 26 (think he’d be an excellent option)
Teemu Pukki, 33

I think Ben Brereton-Díaz will go elsewhere.

Relatively slim pickings but some acceptable options.

Akpom did extend. If we went up he'd be worth an enquiry. Probably get quoted £30 million or something ridiculous though.

I wouldn’t be interested in Akpom myself. He’d be 28 not long after the season starts so his re-sale value won’t ever get any higher and this is by far the best season he’s ever had and possibly will ever have.

Not sure resale cones into it when you get them without a fee to their club.

Depends how he would perform. If he did well then a club would offer a fee.

As above I think they triggered his extension.

Akpom has scored more this season (he's 27), than he has in his whole career.

Said it before, Tarqs, there was nothing in his past career to say he would do what he has done this season. He only cost Boro £2.5 million, or something like that, and then everything clicked into place and he took off like a rocket.

I think we should be definitely going for this lad as one of our 'cheap' signings.

Pace and athleticism... and most of all, cheap as he's not signing a new contract.

We need at least 2 permanently contracted players who can play behind a striker and on a free he'd be convenient for us. Get McAtee on loan as well and thats probably enough there

We should sell the family silver for Cameron Archer.
Villa will not sell, and if they did, it would be for a higher value than we'd ever be able to pay.

They sold lesser proven Carney Chukwuemeka for 20m. You can expect Archer to cost double that.

Id be on board with this only drawback being his goal every 402 mins stats at a much lower level and at 26 hes no spring chicken

Well, if the best team in the league (Boro) don’t go up. A premier league loan could be the next step for Archer.

To be fair, he's played most of his career on the flank (which obviously is a problem) and has only this season started playing more as a forward. 8 in a poor side this season when again he's alternated between wing and forward aint too bad.

He's definitely not one to be banked on, but still would be a good option to have off the bench. And y'know... cheap.

I'm still gnashing my teeth that we didn't go for Toney when we could have.

Yep, I think that's more reasonable (though again, Villa may decide to keep him around their first team after his performance at Boro).

Deffo
Fingers crossed eh ?
Thibk we need to find a mousset type with explosive pace and good finishing as teams are going to look to sit in and counter against us with the way we play
We need to bring in quick players as tge only counter attacking threat we seem to have was mcatee and ndiaye and jebbison when he played

Need the midfielders to get up there too ,someone like chong or scott

If Coventry and Boro don't make it then I would be all for us going in for Victor Gyokeres on a permanent if we could afford just one reasonable fee, and Cameron Archer on a season long loan with a view to a permanent if we can stay up. O'Brien and maybe the lad Garner from Everton or Nakamba from Villa would be nice in the middle of the park. Bring in the two City lads again if possible and maybe a left centre back/wing back and that would look ok to me. Maybe a new number 1 from the lower leagues to seriously challenge Wes. Obviously all depends on what money we have available but the outlay whilst not astronomical for the PL may be beyond us at present. You can only play the cards you have though.

Just done his hammy...

Sorry, thought you meant Archer. 🥴
