Tough call that one....some you win, some you lose.
The linesman will be more disappointed than anyone they got it wrong.

Anyone watch the sky program the other night with Carragher and Neville doing the linos practice or whatever it was....caragher got 3/5 wrong, and both had to admit it isn't easy!

That linesman was hopeless.

When he got roundly booed for that decision, I said he'd be less inclined to give the next one. Sure enough, down in the South Stand corner, Billy was offside AND handled the ball.....no signal, not that we profited.

At one point in the second half, Hanson was having his shirt pulled so badly, you could see his midriff exposed, right in front of the linesman, nothing given, he had a shocker.

It was close. Played the same game trying to pinpoint when it left Billy's foot, and Clarke's definitely made the move in front of the defender (though not necessarily offside). Framerate on the video probably isn't good enough to get it bang on. I think from the linesman's position it's always going to look offside so it's not one I'd hold against him.

Officials make errors for all teams and while they can change games you've simply got to be good enough to get results regardless. That's why we won the game anyway, that's why we're top of the league.

Scunny at home....shocking decision not to give offside and they hit the post. Not saying they aren't shite on occasion, because there are plenty of blatantly obvious errors they make.
But I for one think the human side of the game should be left alone. No video reply....extra officials...goal line tech fine, but leave it there.

Instead, concentrate on making their role professional. Pay well, train then well and it will improve.

There'll always be human error until video replays are implemented, and while I think that's good in sports like basketball where games are relatively stop-start anyway, I think it'd kill the flow of most football games.

More often than not bad decisions over the course of a season will cancel themselves out for you.

Probably because Hanson was just in the area and he didn't have the bollocks to flag. I've little doubt anywhere else on the pitch and despite him being shit, he would have been waving it furiously. Can only assume he turned a blind eye to it because even the bloke who sits behind me saw it and he'd gone for a piss!

2 things

So was I. When the attacker is nearest to the lino then it works against them.

parallax error ... I'm sure I remember a 'famous' gambler on "This is Your Life" who only bet on photo finishes (he stood at the finishing line) and then only bet if he saw that the horse further away from him had won, for just this reason ?????

Disagree, for a big man he is in good shape.

It was one of those which you expect to be given at the time, but are fairly sure you'll find out was onside later...
As was I. Very surprised it was flagged, he looked onside to me in real time.

Didn't cost us fortunately.

Got to say I agree with JordoBlade and (please forgive me guys) that awful lino.

The problem with video referees, is that a few people can all watch the slow motion replay and still have a difference of opinion as to whether it's a foul, penalty, off side, etc etc....

When a person has to make a split decision in real time, he can be forgiven a misjudgement.

Video replays will only heighten controversy, and delay everything, possibly to the point of farce....

Am I looking at the right picture?
He looks 100% on side to me. He's leaning forward and the defender is further away but in my eyes he's clearly on!

I said the exact same, Trigger! We've had some f*cking awful linesmen down that side on the South these past few weeks.

There was another time in the second half when Hanson deliberately avoided the ball because he knew it'd be called off but the lino and ref still gave it.

You can't tell at what point the ball is played though from stills.

I was on the kop, not the best view for an off side. I legged it all the way down the steps from the back in excitement and to see Mr Sharp celebrate... My instincts didn't tell me off side.

The point I'm trying to get to though is that these images prove the point about video refs being a bad idea. Do we have to wait until they split the pictures into frames and then make a balanced mathematical, and still debatable decision based on the refresh rate of the camera......

No way was he offside! - When the ball was played - see image, Clarke was onside. The Linesman was crap all night!
