So on to the next in our quest to remain unbeaten.....Charlton Athletic or number 15.

http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/10668422/bristol-rovers-1-5-charlton

I watched the highlights and I was trying to make my mind up whether Charlton were decent or whether Bristol rovers were poor opposition and I guess you can safely say that it was a bit of both really.

I think the main thing that stands out is how many goals are scored from distance. No pissing about, get in a decent position and have a dig on sight...granted the Rovers keeper could have done better with a couple and a hint of reflection maybe however you can't detract too much from some fine strikes.

It also looks like the have a bit of pace and trickery and like to get down the wings as well......

Solo on to the next and all that....how do we set up??

Do we throw caution to the wind and revert to a steady 4-4-2? Or do we attack the game with our 3-5-2 wing backs system and take the game to them? The latter would lead to a very open game of attacking football which would be playing to our strengths.

I am more than confident in our CB's to mop up most of what the opposition will throw at us and I am confident that they won't have as much time and space to pull the trigger against us however who would the 3 at the back be??.....I do worry about Bashan when the opposition have pace and trickery about them however he will no doubt be in the starting XI....soooo?? Do you go for bash, fleck and courts in the middle of the park and eel, o Connell and wright at the back with hopefully Lafferty and freeman out wide?

I do think we missed Duffy tonight and if fit I don't see how you can leave such a play maker out of the starting xi because he makes so much happen for us!

Welcome dilemma guess with options either way if Duffy and freeman are back to 100%....I feel bad singling out Bashan but it's a fair observation surely??

Opinions??

Totally agree with S5. I'm expecting an open game. They will be up for it after last night and to be fair have been decent last couple of home games. However they have haven't faced a decent attacking side at home of late which could leave them wide open. Could be a cracker this one

Stick to our normal game plan. Done alright with it so far.
Play our usual game and dont worry about the opposition too much.

Is Done alright with it so far though?
...that, my friends, is the question....,

Watching that back, Rovers were dire. They got unlucky on one, but should still have been at least 3-1.

I think this will be a big test. They've been a bit Jekyll & Hyde this season and although they might not have beaten any of the top 8 in the League (although I thought Bristol Rovers were before last night), they also beat Scunny 3-1 in the FA Cup.

Think we should stick to the formation that has served us best recently with the 3 CB's. If Freeman is still not fit, then Basham to continue on the right. Really hope Duffy is back as although Scougs did well, we missed him v Bury. I could also see Chapman playing that role. We need to stop putting EEL out wide too, leave him to do what he's good at which is defending.

I am sure Bristol Rovers were down to 10 men after 65min. I think their centre back got stretched off and they had used all their subs. Admittedly they were already 3-0 down.
It will be a tough game on Saturday they will be full of confidence.
Hopefully has others have said Charlton should come at us more rather than just putting 10 men behind the ball or even 9.
Hope Freeman and Duffy are fit.

Difficult game, a draw would be acceptable.

Match Stats:

Home Team Bristol Rovers Away Team Charlton

Possession
Home 53% Away 47%

Shots
Home 9 Away 8

Shots on Target
Home 3 Away 5

Corners
Home 6 Away 3

Fouls
Home 6 Away 6

Doesn't exactly look a dominant performance - every shot on target went in 3 of them via deflections - I'm confident we'll do 'em.

We should obviously play to our strengths. They're the ones who should be adjusting their gameplan.

Charlton have had two good wins but the stats from both suggest they weren't that impressive in either. It could possibly give them more confidence than they should have - enough confidence to take us on, which would lead to an open game, and that should work in our favour.

The one we need to make special plans for is Lookman, he's a very quick and dangerous right winger. Fleck will have to get back a fair bit to help Lafferty, and it would help if we didn't play Wright LCB so he's never in a one on one situation with him.
Ricky Holmes will probably miss out through injury though so that's a plus.

They do have a good home defence so we'll have to defend well to win, as it's very unlikely we'll score more than 2.

If I was the Charlton manager I'd say when they have the ball lets get all behind the ball and bring them onto us as they are not so good at breaking teams down then when we get the ball break quickly on them with 3 or 4 passes and a shot. In the Wooward and Currie days we were very good at this. A bit like the way we played in the second half at Chesterfield but struggled in the first half when they parked the bus.
For teams that park the bus and have commanding centre halves I wonder if one tactic to break it down is to keep working it to the edge of the box where your best two shooters are positioned who then have a ping. Only problem is we don't seem to have many in the team who have a hard accurate shot. Hope I've not woken up the hoof ball vs tippy tappy debate again but personally they can stuff that boring Barcelona pass it into the net from 2 yards after half an hour of tippy tappy up their a*se. Give me 4 or 5 passes and a scorching shot into the net from the edge of the box anyday.

Karl Robinson now confirmed as new Charlton boss. Never easy playing a team with a new manager, they are on good form anyway and will be trying to impress the new gaffer. That said I think this will be a good match for us after the surreal experiences of the previous 2 fixtures. There will not be a defensive line of 7/8 to contend with, and we have the weapons and guile to exploit. I think it will be a belting game, Robinson seems to be a fairly attack minded manager. I'll go for 2-3 Blades.

He's not taking charge until Monday, but they'll want to impress him nevertheless.

Freeman and Duffy confirmed as available. I'd take a draw.

Unless injuries force you to change the best teams stick to what has brought them success, for me home or away, against the top or the bottom we play our way, we dictate because thats what the better teams do, and we are the best team, let them change how they play because they dont want to lose, bring it on.

"Speed and trickery", we have abit of that, but will Chapman finally get the nod!??

in our last 3 away games weve scored 4 at chessy 4 in grimbo and 3 at bratfut

Good point. We've actually scored 19 away goals this season as opposed to 14 at home, and when you consider that those away games included matches against 3rd, 7th, 1st, 8th and 4th, it indicates we do well when the opposition tries to get on the front foot, as most home teams do.

Tricky game, they have some good players.

New manager, but club deemed to be underperforming and being run by a bloke who makes Kev McCabe look like Daniel Levy! Fans on his back and a bit of an atmosphere for the home players to deal with.

Hopefully, Wilder will have our lads relaxed and just set them up to play our way. If we manage an early goal then I reckon we will get a win.

Toughest game so far in my opinion. They are on a roll, have a new manager who has a great record against us and are probably much better than the league suggests.

Take a draw any day

Always struggle vs. Karl Robinson/MK Dons.. or so I thought.

Just checked and the overall record is W5 L5 D1. Vs. Karl Robinson's MK Dons it's W4 L5 D1.. So, we're due a win to even it up
