What does this mean for CW and United? Would he leave his boyhood club for a club where there are massive expectations and an expectant fan-base?
Hopefully the Prince and Kev can get their act together to keep him here and avoid any approaches from North London

Chris Wilder at arsenal, now that would be hilarious, the 'establishment' club with a straight talking sheffielder, I obviously wouldn't want it to happen but part of me would love it, about as much chance it happening as me saying I don't mind sheffield Wednesday as a club.

He should jump at the chance to manage Wolves / Fulham / Villa / Boro / Derby / WBA / Southampton / Stoke probably a few others.

Be realistic people, Derby are paying there manager £35,000 a week! I guess CW is £25,000 behind. I don’t care who you are you take that sort of money.

Derby pay there manager that and let him bring in the players he wants. If he fails it’s down to the manager. At this club CW can fail due to no backing.

What makes anyone imagine Arsenal are even thinking about Wilder as their next manager?

The Gunner's radar will be cast far and wide, and the thought of a still unproven Championship manager being appointed as Wenger's successor is risible.

If there was any justice we'd see the appointment of Sam Allardyce as Arsenal's next manager, with a 10-year contract, and complete control of all team matters. No one would question Sam's absences as he negotiates another unsavoury contract, so effectively Sam would be in his element........well we can at least dream. The first 5-10 years of Wenger's tenure probably gave Wenger the job security that eventually came to rest like a weight around the club's neck. From the high's of creating a team that played with imagination, that achieved so much domestically, I think Wenger's been treading water for about a decade. That's probably a bit harsh as Wenger managed to secure a top 4 position for his team for several season's, something that should be viewed as a great achievement given the changing face of professional football.

As for who will replace Arsene? Either Joachim Low or Diego Simeone. Simeone would shake the place up and incentivize the squad to recapture the winning spirit.

I predict Arsenal are in for a prolonged period of mediocrity (by PL standards that is). The reason being that they are run on sound business principles and don't chuck squillions into the club at the first sign of panic. Good for them.

I'm alarmed at the amount of people that have missed the joke

Was just going to post the same thing. Do you think CW will take Alan Knill and Matt Prestridge with him to Arsenal?

If I was their board, I'd be moving Heaven & Earth to get Simeone.

Love CW, but he's as much chance of getting the Arsenal job as I have, they'd never dare.

Obviously its a joke. But a bit boring if everyone has to mention it just to prove & for me i could see Ancelotti as he serial winner managing all the huge teams all over the world or maybe Eddie Howe with Wenger as Director of football, guiding, educating & passing on his career expierence

For me its the right time to announce as they can plan the farewell he deserves ive said before wenger between 96 & 07 was fantastic. Played great football with players like Bergkamp Pires Henry Vieira Lungberg Wiltord & Anelka. The sides in 1997/98 & 2001/02 were 2 of great PL sides in history. I ssid 12 months ago i hope he left after winning fa cup. So hopefully he can leave on a high beat athletico madrid then lift europa league

Are they? I saw he was offered a £1m a year deal in Jan, £1.8m seems a bit steep

I thought Rowett was on £1m p.a. as well. Still a decent wedge for a manager who's career highlight to date is losing a L2 play-off final and a 9th place finish in the championship. I was under the impression that CW is on somewhere between 1/4 to a 1/3 of that, but that is just unsubstantiated pub talk.

They did spunk £60m on s striker in Jan after spending £50m on one last Summer. Plus are now paying £300k a week to Ozil.

This myth that Wenger didn't spend money is wrong.

He just spent it badly. £33m for Mustafi and £40m for Xhaka being the most recent examples...
