We now have 2 central defenders! Happy times indeed.

Sheffield United have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy on a season-long loan deal, skysports.com understands.

Sunderland assistant manager Eric Black revealed earlier this week they had given Nosworthy permission to hold talks with United about a return to Bramall Lane.

Nosworthy ended last season on loan at United and the defender impressed during his stint at the South Yorkshire outfit.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell was keen to bring the versatile defender back to the club and now a deal is understood to have been struck.

Sunderland were believed to prefer a permanent deal for Nosworthy, but they have reluctantly agreed to sanction a season-long deal for the former Gillingham man.

Happy with that, good solid pro at this level, been there, done it and likes to play football as well (much to KB's disgust at times!).

If Nossy found a handgrenade on the floor he'd just have to pick it up and fiddle with the pin.

:)

Why have any fully contracted players at all? Why not play in the 5 a side league or whatever the loan rules permit? What about that Futsal I watch on Eurosport sometimes?

We'll be getting a McCabe statement soon about 'given the global economic crisis, I can see a time when all football players train themselves in communes and just turn up here at 2.30 on a Saturday, like the good old days when I used to watch the Blades - we are at the forefront of this change and mark my words we are going for it this season.'

I suggest SUFC issue all fans with a detailed guide to the loan rules as we are going to be needing it this coming term.

I do however accept there is scope for a couple of loan signings and Nosser is OK for me!

I can't believe we get our man and still people grumble because we didn't pay for him

Decent signing, particulatly with out shabby looking defence. He will be good at this level and I hope him and Morgs can form a partnership. We still need (at least) another 2 defenders, but this is a step in the right direction.

Couldn't give a monkeys if he is on loan (as long as he cannot be recalled). Sure I'd prefer a perm contract, but we obviosuly were unwilling (and probably unable) to stump up the fee and hence this will do. Bottom line is he is a much need decent defender.

It'll be interesting to see whether KB sees him as a CB or full back, I'm guessing the former unless Bartley is coming in.

so what's the back four looking like now:

Ertl Morgan Nosworthy Taylor...........Left back urgently required!?!?

Agreed, decent signing. Best one for me so far other than Simmo.

I don't think Taylor is as bad as people make out. Sure he's got his faults but I wouldn't be suicidal if we started the season with him there. Having said that I reckon Vignol will be a cert if he shows any kind of form in the next couple of weeks and doesn't price himself out of a contract.

I'm not sure if I understand quite what you mean by that, are you suggesting he's an excessive risk taker?

I see him slightly differently, I think he's a panic merchant, bombscare is what springs to mind. That's ironic if you think he wouldn't be frightened of an explosive device ;-)

On a different aspect, and as an aside, not a criticism, his throw in action looks highly suspect to me, as the ball comes round the side of his head, not over the top and that's surely against the rules?

And still we pay no transfer fee, i guess we couldn't afford to buy him. Thought it would be worth paying 500k for him then we still have maximum loan players available.

Great signing, with added comedy value thrown in.
Always fun to watch, never know when he's going to try to dribble his way out of a tight corner.
Will help lighten up the general dreariness.

Agreed. To this end, and in light of last season's fiasco, I for one would welcome a statement from the club as to whether or not Nosworthy can be recalled and, if so, when and for what reasons. They'd save themselves a lot of grief if they did this.

If he can cut out some of the comedy stuff this is a good deal.

As with all season long loans, they can only be recalled if the 'owning' club take him back to sell in January, unless of course we have another ridiculous 'Kylesque' clause. As Sun'land want rid, I guess there's always a chance of recalling him for sale but that's the chance you take.

It is but he must get the ball sufficently over the top of his head when it leaves his hands otherwise he'd have been pulled up on it by now.

On the signing I'm glad we have got him, again its a shame its not a perm deal, but at least we have him in now.

Which is why I would like to know what the position is.

He's drawn to danger like a moth to a flame...

Last man? Striker bearing down? Time for a drag back!

Got the ball in a crowded penalty area? Time for a one-two with Morgs!

I'm with Len - he's three parts comedy, one part tragedy. He'll be ace. :)

You're clearly forgetting the first-choice left back we've just signed. It'll be Kozzy.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that this absolute joke of a club has somehow managed to make at least 2 decent signings??????

Yes, that is correct. Credit where credit is due. I like to be fair accurate, which is why I spend hours each day criticising Kevin Blackwell as manager of SUFC.

It would be closer to £3 Million once you factor him his wages demands.

I'm guessing it will depend on how much of his wages we are picking up. If we are paying 100% I would suggest there won't be a recall clause as with Billy last season.

And what's wrong with Kozluk?

Apart from him being shit?

If they get an offer I think they can recall and sell in January (i.e. we could have sold Billy in January but not brought him back to play/sit on his arse).

I like him.
I think he's good.
I like that he will play football for my team.
I don't care that we haven't signed him permanently.
I'd take a season of stability by what ever means possible.
