So long as McCabe is in control, I feel this is true. Not because of nothing learnt, but because, in my view, his agenda has never coincided with fostering a successful football team but a successful business.
If you're correct it means two important things ..........

a) the Board have learned NOTHING from the last 5 seasons in this division
b) its going to be another very long, frustrating, unsuccessful and ultimately disappointing season

Dear Mr. Wilder, please tell your lads that when a ball is fired low across the goal line, to put one foot forward, so it connects with the ball and goes in the back of the net, don't stand watching it go past like a spectator.

Yours Sincerely

Grappler.

OK, so a nice warm day out. Let's summarize the game; they were nothing special, we had tons of possession, we need a tall, strong midfielder, to run forward and shoot. The back four seemed solid enough, Duffy was good, Hussey ok, Fleck very good. But if Fleck is the lad to run forward and find the killer pass, his sidekick needs to be the powerhouse who runs hard and fast, in a straight line, down the middle of the park towards goal and shoots. We don't need two lads in the middle who get to the final third and then look for the pass, one will do.

Che came on and did one great run, not much else.

Scougall came on and did nothing, and I mean nothing.

Brayford seemed to slow down alarmingly as the game wore on, stood with the ball, at the throw in, looking around for ages, just throw it man!

Clarkey, was held back by two players all game, they climbed all over him.

Sharp, similar story.

We looked much better than last season, but a big, strong, fast, marauding mid field goal scorer should be priority.

Loads of Blades in Glossop on the way back, pub tills must have been ringing a lot!!!

Didn't we have about 15 mins (with added time) playing against ten men?

The ref had a strange game. He missed blatant fouls but then made a big issue of us taking throw ins five yards in the wrong place.

On the highlights I've seen the two chances were hardly glaring
One was a whipped ball across the box and the other was a header from a blind juvenile

1st game of the season and some become panic stricken. I'd rather judge the team/management after say 6 games not 1.

To be fair, one game was all it took last season!*

*N.B I am in no way advocating the view that this season is already a write-off

My main concern is the lack of chances created. It sounded lack we only created half a dozen at best and not guilt edge. And whilst there seemed to be issues about forwards gambling (Brayford always hits the front post, run across it ffs), the lack of clear-cut chances against a seemingly deflated team is worrying.

Wilder was asked about pace before the game and seemed to think we have pace?! In fact, he derided pacey players, which seems like a deflection tactic to me.

Wow
We lose by a single goal to a team that is still sprinkled with high earning ex prem stars that quite frankly they didn't deserve and some drama queen on here can't wait to get the knives out either to top themselves or stick it in Wilders back. This with half of you not even going to the game!!
I was there so let's have a bit of realism shall we?
Overall we did ok, faded yes but that was more down to the heat and Bolton sitting large numbers back and defending deep.
First 25 mins we were superb and if it wasn't for Clarkes glaring missed header or players gambling in the box it would have been all over. Generally we were the better side save for the last 15 of the first half. Yes we need additional players and we have weaknesses but only a fool would have thought Wilder could do it all in 1 window. The main thing is that we look like we are moving FORWARD.
Fleck was the stand out player and yes Basham and the Beard started well. Done will get better but he certainly wasn't the poorest. Hussey wasn't great and Sharp was very quiet.
It's one game though with plenty of positives to build on and a damn sight better than last season. Let's give them some encouragement before we rip them apart eh?
........ And no, I'm no happy clapper. Just a realist
Agree with you word by word.

When the opposition pack the defence and sit as deep as they did the chances became minimal. Before then we had ripped them apart and they somehow had sneaked a goal. They were happy to try and contain us and stick with what they had. Being the home side it shows they knew we could hurt them

But it's the job of our creative players to find a way through that kind of defence. It's something we've faced a lot at this level. The lack of pace makes it more difficult.

I'd agree. When Wilder first arrived, the squad was an utter mess. He's taken great strides to transform things but what is achievable in eight weeks? So we weren't a fully-formed, promotion-seeking team on the first day - CW will get it right.

Could be worse, Blackburn lost at home 1-4 yesterday and the manager? Owen Fucking Coyle.

Keep the faith - got good feelings about this season.

Agree with you word by word.

The drama queens have been desperate to stick the knife in all summer. There were a few false dawns where they tried it on but first real chance so let them fill their boots I guess.

Toughest game of the season and we did OK, but lots of improvement required. Onwards!

Yes we lack pace but I doubt it would have made much difference yesterday. Bolton were so deep there was little space to run in to

Whether you take the negative or positive view of yesterday, a few things are clear:

1 We need more enforcement's, particularly left wing and centre mid, as priorities then goal keeper
2 It's the first game and I think this team will improve as the season goes along. Teams that get new managers over the summer often take time to improve, what with the new players bedded in and a new manager's tactics
3 Look at Charlton's result and how Wigan did last season at the beginning. Its early days and even yesterday we could see an improved performance, although I admit I didn't go but first half it seemed we were much better.
4 Rochdale lost, we have them next week and have a decent record against them so I'm hopeful.

Its not time for over panicking. I think we all are still feeling the down feeling of last season. I for one woke up yesterday, not with excitement, but fearing feeling crap again, as I did most weeks last season, but this will be better and different to last season. Once we get on a roll then I think we'll be fine and by Christmas I expect us to be in the top two if not before.

For everyone who says "I didn't go to Bolton, but it sounded like...", (not knocking people for not attending) just wait until the home games and look at the team for yourself, a huge improvement on last season already. This is a much better team for League 1 and CW is not finished yet. We still need another goal scorer to take Basham's place. He didn't have a bad game yesterday, but we need someone who comes through the middle of the field in a straight line, straight at goal, to complement the wing play.

Also, Fleck, don't let the lack of height concern you, this is a tough kid, stocky and fearless, won't shy away from the tackle against big lads.

Central defenders look like they would happily land a fist in your face if you upset them, just what we have been missing in this division.

I fear Rochdale will park the bus and it will be a bit of a battle.

Nice to know there's still some sane blades out there. Think we are close to being a good side .oconnall is a tough cookie .utb

Then CW and Knilly need to come up with a plan for that pal. I am hoping that Clarkey continues in the same form as yesterday for corners. Stands on the edge of the box and charges through defenders as the ball comes in, ok it didn't result in a goal yeserday, but it will at some point. Bolton had a lot more height in the side, something which we still lack.

Will be interesting, think we have loads more options up top and in Wilder a manager willing to mix things up to get results. Should mean we'll have fewer stale performances at home passing the ball across the back four.

When sides come to sit deep and frustrate we will indeed need to find a way of dealing with it.
And the only way is quality crosses and the ability to shoot from outside the box.

That has been our nemesis for years.

So we will hopefully be looking for that goal scoring midfielder who always at least hits the target, while practising putting the bloody ball in the net A LOT!

Spot on Grilzzly, we did take a few shots from outside the box yesterday, although they hit defenders or went over the bar or wide, but it will come.

My only gripe yesterday, if I am honest, is that I would have brought on McNulty instead of Scougall, because McNutz is a proven goal scorer and we needed a goal.

I'm not being overly gloomy with this result, its an improvement on our start last season, however, it does highlight just how far we are away from being a squad capable of challenging realistically for the top two places.

We are very clearly 4 / 5 players short of a promotion side and I just hope that the Board wake up and recognise this and allow Tufty to do what he realises needs to be done. If we don't bring in some quality at GK, CH, CM, and LW then I suspect that we will be very inconsistent again and by Xmas, any thoughts of automatic promotion will be a distant dream, the same as last year.

We've been given a bit of a wake up here, the fans ( as usual ) have delivered the goods ........ over to the Board and Tufty !!

I don't get who's been given a wake up? Has any poster on here said we don't need more players? I'm pretty sure everyone said we did so why is it such a surprise to lose an away game against a team that will be at the top end of the table this season?

I dont believe we are 4/5 players away from a promotion team. To say that after one game is ludicrous.

We need another CM, maybe another CB with experience and we really miss a wide man who just creates stuff on his own through beating a man.

But up to now the defence has looked reasonably solid. So if I could have one player only it would be a genuine goal threat at CM.
