Not the Result We Wanted, But...

We were the only team in all 3 divisions today not to have a shot on target according to the blokes who look at that sort of thing

We knew the weak spots before the KO. They are still the same , GK , CB , CM & LM. Wilder knows this. Done needs replacing by a proper LW. Keep him as cover striker if you must.
Basham is not a promotion winner ffs , he is cover at best - get a proper CM.
Still need a cover CB if Wilder won't say it's Basham.
GK divides opinion , but an experienced one is needed , whether cover or started.

None of these things are going to be addressed. We are going with what we have.

New signings needed...

GK - An experienced, not too old keeper to come in as no.1 with Long as understudy.
CB - Someone to partner O'Connell
CM - Goalscoring, box to box, playmaking CM who will dominate games. This is most important IMO.
LM - Fuck Done off and get in a much faster, tricky, skilful operator who can cross a ball and also score a few.

These should be able to be brought in without the need to sell Adams, but if he is sold as he's likely to be, then in an ideal scenario that money will be used in addition to the money we were already going to spend to increase quality. But obviously the money won't be reinvested.

Agree with this completely. the CM and LW need pace. I don't mind a young premierleague CB because Wilson didn't sound too bad, but will wait for a match report.

Wilder has just said on RS that Basham and Fleck were outstanding.

The next two games, both at home, both winnable.

And we will need to with Millwall and Gillingham away following that.

First 25 mins or so good football. Looked like we'd walk it and the crowd were starting to get on Bolton's back. Then five mins before the goal Bolton started playing a bit but not much. Then they banged one in, good goal, and our performance level dropped. It obvs gave Bolton a lift but it only elevated them to bang average. We were about on the same level and the match was just shite after that!

Bash was good for first 20 mins then in he had a couple of moments after that. I was sat with Bolton fans, most were remarking how he was a good player...well for 20mins they did!

If you're correct it means two important things ..........

a) the Board have learned NOTHING from the last 5 seasons in this division
b) its going to be another very long, frustrating, unsuccessful and ultimately disappointing season

UTB & FTP

We know they have learned nothing. McCabe thinks it's all bad luck.

And how long before the questions about the managerial appointment are going to be asked again? In fact I will ask it now! I wasn't convinced by the appointment and I am still not convinced by it.

Shall we sack him then?

Shall we sack him then?

No and that is clearly not what I am saying, I am saying I would not have gone for him, he's got work to do to convince me, and if they were honest a lot of other people, that this job is not too big for him, I firmly believe if he wasn't a Blade a lot more people would not be happy with appointment of man who has spent his entire career managing small teams in League two and the conference.

Now, I only heard the first half but it sounded very encouraging. In fact KE was saying it's the best he'd seen us play for eons. Pressing, quick, forward looking football. So what was so dire I'm the 2nd half for everybody to be so negative now?

And he's managed to win promotion from said leagues with said 'small teams' - do you mean to base your opinion on one defeat? When the performance wasn't even bad?

No. I have my doubts about the signings apart from Fleck and we haven't addressed a number of serious weaknesses, particularly in defence, keeper and out wide. The lack of pace in the pre season games has stuck out like a sore thumb.

I'll agree there is work to be done, and there are weaknesses that should have been addressed, but it's not football manager, it isn't possible to simply bin off the players we don't want anymore and sign someone who has pace and proven delivery out wide, and a strong CM. Wilder has done far more to address the weaknesses that you rightly mention than the previous incumbent who was supposedly proven at this level.

Wow
We lose by a single goal to a team that is still sprinkled with high earning ex prem stars that quite frankly they didn't deserve and some drama queen on here can't wait to get the knives out either to top themselves or stick it in Wilders back. This with half of you not even going to the game!!
I was there so let's have a bit of realism shall we?
Overall we did ok, faded yes but that was more down to the heat and Bolton sitting large numbers back and defending deep.
First 25 mins we were superb and if it wasn't for Clarkes glaring missed header or players gambling in the box it would have been all over. Generally we were the better side save for the last 15 of the first half. Yes we need additional players and we have weaknesses but only a fool would have thought Wilder could do it all in 1 window. The main thing is that we look like we are moving FORWARD.
Fleck was the stand out player and yes Basham and the Beard started well. Done will get better but he certainly wasn't the poorest. Hussey wasn't great and Sharp was very quiet.
It's one game though with plenty of positives to build on and a damn sight better than last season. Let's give them some encouragement before we rip them apart eh?
........ And no, I'm no happy clapper. Just a realist

1st game of the season and some become panic stricken. I'd rather judge the team/management after say 6 games not 1.

Started like a house on fire ,just needed to take the chances .look forward to a good season .somebody tell tufty that scouges can't play on the right

It was a poor game but still winnable.

Bolton were nothing special and seemed to struggle when we closed them down actually put pressure on them.

we ve needed a goalscoring cm for ten years since lord brown left. we have NEVER replaced him

we lost

We were unlucky today - needed to score in the first 20 mins when we created so very good chances! Today could easily have been a victory or a draw and there would be a lot less soon and gloom on here - first game, away to one of the favourites - really think we will do ok this year! Better attitude all round
