Stoke City defender Andy Griffin says he would consider a loan move to Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough.
The 30-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's something I'd really have to consider,playing for a manager of his calibre".

Nope, not since the glory days of Robbo.

come on fella, surely you don't fall for this tripe. His agent says;

"I've screwed you the top money I possibly can".

Does the player then say;

A) "I came for the cash cos that's all that matters"

or

B) "I've always wanted to come here" "I've always wanted to play for him" "this is a massive club who's ambitions match mine"***

***delete whichever bit of crap takes your fancy.

After seeing year on year of player after player going for the highest buck, I can't believe anyone still falls for this crap.

Tongue in cheek really alco

Just a cheap excuse to write my frustrations about Blackwell and from what I hear about decent players not wanting to come to the lane because they basically think he's a bit of a prick etc

Robbo in!

:)

I share your frustration with our manager in many ways, no doubt. That said, I have a long standing belief that the actual pull of any manager is next to zero. More than ever, players sign for the largest buck, and little else.

Can see why you'd say that but I think its a combo of both, and a 'good manager' - i.e. one players have respect for and want to work with - has a big pull on it

I know Robson had the financial clout as well, but word from WBA and most of SUFC was that players did enjoy working with him as he understood players and tried to work with them to get the best from them. Players wanted to come and play for him because of that, not just cash. Granted that will have gone now after his continued failings.

Blackwell's 'No.2 skills', Robbo's pull, Big Sam's attention to every detail and Phil Brown's tan...where is he? :help:

players loved playing for Warnock, on the whole. I think he'd score a zero on the "draw" scale though.

I have no doubt that all of Robson's signings would have come for Blackwell. We offered enormous contracts both is size and length. They were so big that even Beattie claimed to have lots of respect for Blackwell....:D

Either way, the players we should be looking to sign in future are the Jamie Ward's of the world. Lower division promise. I think the draw of BDTBL, the contracts we can offer and the stature of the club / fan base will be enough to clinch these, whoever is in charge.

Mind you, I'm all for having a "top manager" in charge. But that's another story.

Not too sure they would've come for Blackwell, Alco. With loan players, it's as much about the owner-club's manager and whether they are willing to do favours and are happy with the playing style of the club wanting to take the loanee.

Actually I was referring more to sales than loans and I could see there would be a difference. Mind you, I still think many loans from lots of clubs occur so they can lighten the wage-bill and often the player is happy to just get some football. But the manager could well be more of a draw here.
