There's loads of Blades on here that clearly don't live in Sheffield anymore, some that aren't even from Sheffield

So, if you're not from Sheffield - Why do you support the Blades?

Friends?
Parents?
Did you study here?

Just curious as to why you would support the Blades over say Norwich/Ipswich if you're from East Anglia.

I know a bloke from the south coast who relocated to Sheffield for work about 20yrs ago. He is now 100% Blade even though he now lives back "darn sarth"

During a day visiting customers in Sheffield I saw we were at home that evening so stayed down to watch. It was just when Kendall took over and a relegation six pointer v either Luton or Burnley (I think) and was a goalless draw . Circa repeated themselves a few weeks later so I did it all over again for another draw. Hooked.

A Bradford blade I once saw at bus station said his dad took him to see pigs then us, as father worked here like. He went for the blades..Flashing blade used to have a German from Hamburg writing articles, and I had a penpal many moons back, a Bulgarian fan of Levski Sofia, who followed Blades from Sofia..why..beats me....

Is an explanation necessary for us lot in Rotherham/Chesterfield/Worksop/Barnsley/Donny? It's a more obvious geographical reasoning of the reach of the club.

There is a big Sheffield United contingent from Rotherham; particularly in Parkgate/Rawmarsh/Kilnhurst/Swinton etc. I'm not totally sure why these areas have a stronger connection with Sheffield than other parts of the town. Maybe in Swinton's case, it's because the railways gives easy and quick access for getting into Sheffield, rather than somewhere like Bramley.

Like i said in another post, i'm born and bred a Norfolk carrot cruncha, but, one saturday in 1984 my cousins took me to a Norwich game who happened to be playing the Blades. Don't ask me why but it was just love at first sight.
I have followed them ever since the length and breadth of the country. I've had season tickets and memberships over the years also. My wife is a Norwich STH. There are a few of us around this area that i know of and only one hails from Sheffield!!
Make of that what you will, but, i know i definitely wouldn't have it any other way!!!!

Mind your own business ;-)

Well I'm from S12 and I'm just curious. My dad is a blade. My uncle is a blade. They made my older brother a blade and in turn made me a blade. Some say you should have a choice in the matter but I wouldn't change. One thing that we all share other than loving the blades is we all hate Wednesday

I was joking of course.

I was just giving you a traditional Yorkshire response. Definitely the kind of reply my dad would have made.

My dad went to Sheffield Uni during the Woodward & Currie era. My uncle was taken along to games as a result. Whereas my dad reverted back to his old team after leaving Uni (Villa), my uncle continued watching United - they were very much his team, and led to 30-odd years of support.

In 1991 I was taken to the Lane for the first time - the first football game I'd been to, and at a time I'd started to become interested in football (the Linekar/Gazza Spurs team at the time). United won the game (over Villa, supported by my Dad and brother) and that was it. I've never lived in Yorkshire, don't have a Yorkshire accent (which always leads to surprise when I say to people that I support United), and under another set of circumstances might have supported Spurs, or more likely Leicester City.

Living in Northern Ireland I have no Sheffield connections but started to follow the blades in the late 80's. I was attracted by the never say die attitude at the time and loved the general passion that the club seemed to exude. Have been travelling over about 5 times each season ever since and must say that despite any natural affiliation to the club I am absolutely hooked. Have 2 small sons who run about in blades shirts - much to the amusement of most people over here. We are trying to spread the word here that sufc are the 'real' united!!

My older brother is a fan of the pigs, so when i was about 6 years old i decided to follow the blades (am 26 now!) to be awkward! it's stuck ever since then, 100% blade now :)

My uncle who was on the coaching staff at Barnsley was determined that I become a Tyke and used to take me to Oakwell for home games for a number of seasons, but I just didn't feel any affinity towards them.
I was taken to watch Peter Swann's return from shame game, I just didn't like the atmosphere of the place..
It was when at school we were shown the film that is used in the opening clips of "The Full Monty" that shows United, three or four of us from Conisbrough decided to go to watch United v Liverpool in 1974, we all became hooked. All our brothers and kids are now devoted Blades, and there are not that many of us here, it's quite an exclusive club..

I grew up in Gleadless Valley and my family were all Blades. All of my remaining family (bar one brother in law) are Blades. I have never wanted to support any other team. I still have to visit Bramall Lane when I am in Sheffield and go to as many matches within geographical reach as possible when time and finance permit, and if I am in Sheffield and there is a match, it s a rare day-out treat for me which I absolutely love.

I love watching football and playing it, and admire better teams than us but when watching United it is 'my' team.

I similarly loathe Sheffield Wednesday and feel happy berating their supporters for the same tribal reasons, although no one down here understands until you draw parallels with Portsmouth and Southampton, 26 miles away from each other. Then they understand. Strange, because sharing a school and a workplace with pigfans (which Mushers and Scummers generally don't) is a completely new experience which they really don't get.

Born Leeds but family from Rotherham and Sheffield, brought up in Barnsley. Went to school in Sheffield in 1966 and school mates introduced me to the Blades. For some reason I didn't form any affiliation with mates who support the Pigs. There was just something about Bramall lane, the team and the fans and I was instantly hooked. Father had taken me to Hillsborough, Leeds and Oakwell but it was nothing like the atmosphere at the Lane.

Blades ever since

From Donny originally but my old man has been watching blades since late 60's when he was about 13. Him and my uncle used to sneak in and pocket the half crown my granddad would give them to buy ciggies.

Once he came out of the army in 1994 he dragged me and my sister down the Lane and have been a Blade ever since.

Much the same as Gaz for me really, although I was a twinkle in me Dad's eye in 1984!

First game I ever saw was Norwich against Blades in about 2001 (we threw away a lead, think Roberts scored a couple for them) and took to them like a duck to water.

Also as a kid, never really saw many "Nathan's" playing proper football, so the fact Nathan Blake played for us had a slight bearing on the decision without me really realising (as a 6 year old!), funny how things come about though.

Only connection I have with Yorkshire is the fact I now have some family living in Donny!

I am Bristol born and bred but I'm a Blade! I don't drink cider and do not enjoy the music from the Wurzels!! my story starts even further afield down in Newquay when I was on a family vacation back in 1994, I was 8 years old. The hotel was owned by Wednesday fans however on the second week their friends came down from Sheffield who were Blades.
My brother and I were having a kick-about in the car park when they arrived in their red, Blades sticker covered car. It must have been love as the daughter called Penny came up to me that evening and asked 'do you support a football team, I saw you playing football earlier', I was at that time on the books at Bristol Rovers but said I didn't support them as they were rubbish!
From that day on I became a Blade which was a disappointment for my dad as he is a massive Bristol City fan and season ticket holder. To be fair to Penny she kept in touch for many years sending me many newspaper cuttings and programmes and other pieces of memorabilia, unfortunately we lost touched so if anyone knows a girl Penny Broomhead tell her thanks!!
I remember my first game was a 2-1 defeat at Bristol City on January 21st 1995, I thought I had picked the wrong team with my dad smiling all the way home. Being a Goalkeeper my hero growing up was Alan Kelly, but if I can remember he slipped in the pre-match warm up and was on crutches, Simon Tracey played in goal that day but I do remember having my picture taken with Alan after the game...legend!
To be fair to my Dad he did take me to a few games to see my beloved Blades, a couple of trips to Swindon and a defeat at WBA. I remember year in and year out people looking at me strangely when i turned p to football training wearing my Blades Goalkeeper shirts, I certainly stood out in those green and orange flourescent numbers!!
It wasn't until I started working and could afford to drive to come and watch the Blades in which my first home game was at Home to Everton in the Premier League, 1-1 was the final score in which both my brother and I were happy with, with him being an Everton fan.
I have never regretted being a Blades fan and love the trip week in and week out, M5,M42 and the M1 is an absolute doddle now. I cant commit to every game as the expense plays a part but every home game feels like an away trip for me so I always have the buzz for it.
The one thing I have tried to learn is the local history, passions and rivalries local Blades fans have, certainly being on here helps but that is also why I am not as vocal as I sometimes would like to be as I do get to at least 20 games a year but I'm sure some of you have heard my opinion of things on here.
I have met some wonderful people in the stands, some who I meet up with nearly every week, great to share our thoughts on our football team.
I remember only this season at the Preston away game one Blade tapped my mate on the shoulder and asked 'where are you from?' Glenn said 'Telford' another said 'Crewe' another said 'Birmingham' and I responded with 'Bristol', nationwide support but as someone also responded with 'we're all BLADES!!!!

When we played made up the numbers against Burnley at Wembley there were some lads next to me from Southampton must have been around 16 yrs old. None had family up here they just chose us.

Im Sheffield 6 born and bred but rebelled against my dad (pig) and became a blade
