The Star claims that we're moving in on Nosworthy...

BREAKING: Sheffield United move in on Nosworthy
Published Date: 16 June 2010

SHEFFIELD United will ask Sunderland for permission to speak with Nyron Nosworthy, the Premier League club's defender, after requesting to be kept informed of his situation at the Stadium of Light.
As The Star reported this week, Nosworthy, who finished last season on loan with Kevin Blackwell's side, has been declared surplus to requirements by Steve Bruce.

But Bruce, Blackwell's counterpart in the North-East, is expected to demand that United meet his valuation of the former Gillingham centre-half before allowing him to open talks about a return to South Yorkshire.

Sources close to Sunderland confirm that United expressed an interest in signing Nosworthy soon after capturing Crystal Palace's Johannes Ertl.

However, despite telling the player he is free to move elsewhere, a fee has yet to be discussed with Bruce expected to demand between £500,000 and £1m after awarding Nosworthy a new contract last year.

Given United's determination to cut budgets at Bramall Lane following the loss of their FAPL parachute payments, that could prove a stumbling block.

But Trevor Birch, United's chief executive, is expected to try and broker a compromise in order to trigger Nosworthy's release.

Meanwhile, United remain confident of striking an agreement with Steve Simonsen after the Stoke City goalkeeper told officials at the Britannia Stadium that he wants to resurrect his partnership with Blackwell next term.

Another former loanee, Blackburn Rovers' Mark Bunn, has also been linked with a return but Simonsen continues to be United's preferred option following Paddy Kenny's move to Queens Park Rangers.

First i've heard of this.

Think he would be a good signing, especially as i would have thought Sunderland would have asked for more the 500,000-1m for him.

Wages may be a stumbling area though i would imagine, as i would think he would be on a fair whack having only agreed a new contract with them last year.

The only thing that may not fit in, is what Blackwell said earlier in the week about the three defenders he was targetting: 1 in Scotland, 1 in Europe and 1 at the WC. Nosworthy doesn't fit the bill on any of those fronts. Unless he's on Holiday in Europe! :D

The star sucks the sweat from a dead mans balls. That goes for both balls if Shields has written it.

Summer Bonus points if people can spot the film references in my posts until I get bored of it of course. I'll try and throw one in on every post.
and no google cheats either ;)

Gooooooooooooooood Morning Vietnam!! :D

His slinky-hipped throw-ins were the tits, though.

I like him, I always have done and I would be delighted if we signed him, he is a big personality who has been there and done it at this level and would be an excellent signing in my view.

Yes, he made a mistake against Scunny but they still had to do a lot of work to score after that. He was great against Wednesday too, I'd bring him in, can do very well at RB too.

i think there are better center halfs out there within our budget.i think clint hills a better player than him.

Nosworthy would be an excellent signing and I didn't hold much hope of being able to get him, but after recent events in the transfer market as well as the rumours I think it's become more and more of a possibility.

He'd be perfect for us, he already knows the players/club, is a good character, quick and experienced.

£750,000 would be a great price if they'd do business.

I like him, and I have the same nickname as him, sign him up sign him up sign him up!!

The Sunderland fans I work with have a Bob Booker type love for him. Not sure thats a good thing in a player we would be paying decent money for.

He always looked confused by his own feet! But I thought he was quite effective in the main.

No deal - according to the O/S.

Yep just read that. I like Nyron but I always got the impression he would be too expensive for us, both in terms of a fee and wages.

I hope this highlights to those supporters who cant grasp, exactly where we are in terms of finances. Any reasonably established (or even slightly) PL players are likely to be completely out of our reach.

The rumours of Ebanks-Blake, Carsley, Nosworthy etc. etc.........forget it. We're not in that market anymore.

Daily Star today says Sunderland have allowed Nosworthy to join United in a cut-price £500k deal

I remember saying this to you just over a month ago, you were suggesting Nosworthy and I said we'd have no chance, but as things have turned out it seems like it's a possibility! United pleasantly surprised us with the Britton signing and seem to hold some hope for Nosworthy. On top of this, the rumours would lead us to believe we can compete more than we thought we'd be able to financially.

The Daily Mail says the same, unless you got the wrong name.

Daily Mail on line also said that Billy Sharpe was a Black Cat! Nos isnt worth £500k and no way we should bust the budget to pay his wages, I'd have him @300k and wages within the budget but thats unlikely.

From what I hear, Nosworthy didn't really enjoy his time fully down here last time.
Apparently everything was all over the shop, behind the scenes.
