anyone got any thoughts about any Northampton players we could keep an eye on in the transfer window one does come to mind for me John Joe O'Toole i know hes been with us in championship but wouldn't mind seeing him back at lane, a good midfielder who can make a pass been one of the key players in Northamptons promotion season
Any suggestions

If Wilder gets the hot seat job , I think we should leave it to him.

UTB.

Adam Smith and Ricky Holmes are probably the most likely.

Both got in team of the season too.

I'd like to see Ricky Holmes over any.

Wouldn't grumble at Ryan Cresswell as a no nonsense centre half, John Joe O Toole as a big strong centre mid and Marc Richards as another option up top, that experience could be vital.

None of the others really strike me as massive improvements. Dave Buchanan has always been a good left back and Lawson D'Ath is a decent midfielder but only signed a new contract this year.

Adam Smith would be my first choice, very good goalkeeper, an area we really need to improve on.

Outside of that John Joe-O Toole used to be a big strong lad in the middle of the park, he came to us with a decent(ish) reputation from Watford and was only young and played pretty well from what I remember, not sure why we didn't pursue it? Seems he's been consistenly good in League 2, he's made Team of the Year down there a couple of times. He's still only 27/28, he may be up to it? Don't know much about Ricky Holmes other than he's pretty highly rated down there.

I hope Wilder does have a look at League 2, seems to be some good young talent coming through from down there, I think Aaron Pierre and Curtis Nelson would be excellent young signings for us at the back. Look how well Alfie Mawson has done at Barnsley in his first year up here.

A report from a Northampton fan:

Northampton's 1-1 draw at Yeovil Town on Saturday increased their unbeaten run to a new club record of 22 league games. Ahead of this weekend's championship coronation v Luton Town I look how each player has contributed to the championship-winning campaign.

Adam Smith: Football League team of the year goalkeeper could well go on to become the club's first £1 million player. A superb season.

Brendan Moloney: Defending is perhaps this right-back's weakest element but more than makes up for it with marauding runs forward. Key player in Chris Wilder's counter attacking style.

Zander Diamond: Not getting any younger but a rock in Town's defence this season. A player to rely on and good experience to play alongside Rod McDonald.

Rod McDonald: Concrete Rod has progressed at a staggering rate since joining from non-league. Still has the odd mistake in him but emerged as a first choice centre back.

Ryan Cresswell: Things just haven't gone well this season for Ryan. Although he is a good defender, he has struggled to get into the side with Diamond and McDonald performing well.

Luke Prosser: Not set the world alight since joining on loan. Looks a tidy player when given time on the ball, but ponderous under pressure.

Dave Buchanan: Would be a popular choice for player of the season. 'Mr 7 out of 10' is super consistent with a great work ethic. Needs to sign a new long-term contract ASAP.

Josh Lelan: Probably done just about enough to be retained as a reserve right back on a cheap contract.

John-Joe O'Toole: PFA League Two Team of the Year player and standout in the Cobblers midfield. His long term contract seems a great decision from Wilder. Will handle League One no problem.

Joel Byrom: In and out of the Cobblers' side but on his day a key component of Northampton's success. Can pick a pass and keeps Town's play ticking over.

Danny Rose: Stepped up ably at the latter end of the season and gives Byrom good competition. An honest player who deserves to be kept on.

Jason Taylor: Always done a good job when called upon but his physical style is less suited to a Town side that can now play a bit. Deserves to be starting elsewhere.

Lawson D'Ath: Not built on his fantastic first season at Sixfields but a player in there for sure and worth a place alone for his work rate. Better defensively than other wingers.

Ricky Holmes: What can you say about this man? Cobblers pocket rocket has been sensational and looks Championship level.

Nicky Adams: Came good at the end of the season but needs to find consistency throughout. Worth a place for his set pieces alone.

Alfie Potter: Struggled badly with injuries but pace matches well with Town's counter-attacking ambitions. Worth sticking with but needs to up his game.

Sam Hoskins: Rapid, mobile attacker but still not sure if he's a striker or a midfielder. Needs to be put on shooting practice to up his finishing rate.

Marc Richards: Best forward in League Two on his day but another season ended with injury. Banking on him is a gamble but too good to discard. Good club man too.

John Marquis: The sort of player Cobblers fans love, works his backside off and has that Millwall menace. Another that could score more goals.

James Collins: Clearly capable but his all round game not there at present. Would like to see him with a pre-season in him but are there better players out there?.

So there you have it, consistency looks the order of the day as Northampton prepare for League One. With one or two additions of the likes of Wycombe defender Aaron Pierre, Notts County's Stanley Aborah or John Akinde of Barnet, Cobblers could go one further and start an assault on the Championship.

Don't think the OP is suggesting we compile a list of targets (via a poll?) and force Wilder to sign them? Could be wrong.

If we do compile a list and Wilder doesn't listen to the target list , he wants sacking. Has he signed yet.:D

UTB

Looking at some of the names being suggested on this thread, all I can say is what an exciting time to be a blade! :(

Let's not ask for Alan Knill's opinion on potential signings;

Meanwhile, Knill has confirmed he has watched Halifax Town's 24-year-old hot-shot Jamie Vardy, as reported earlier in the week.

But he is not a player the Iron are likely to make a move for this summer.

"I did watch him once when he was at Stocksbridge and went out after 30 minutes, I was not too impressed," Knill said.

"I know he has done well at Halifax but he is not a number one target for us."

Let's hope Wilder had a list of players from League 2 he wished he could afford to sign... He might be able to now!

Adkins got rid of a lot of the dross to L2 clubs.

Wilder's probably got the job on the back that these loanees he came up against earlier this season are giving another chance.

To those players who are rumoured to be on their way out, does Adkins execution give them another second chance?

No. He changes the locks, cancels their security passes, puts their stuff in boxes on the pavement, and opens a few windows to get rid of their stench.

I like the sound of concrete Rod in defence.

No. He changes the locks, cancels their security passes, puts their stuff in boxes on the pavement, and opens a few windows to get rid of their stench.

That's what we'd all like to happen. This is Sheffield United. The scriptwriters never change, the storylines are the same, the outcome has always been one of failure the majority of this decade.

Just as an aside, think this interview is quite interesting and considering O'Toole's subsequent up turn in form says a lot about his man-management skills.

That is excellent. He'll be on a winner big time, if that's how he goes about things here.

P.S. Like the fact that Chrissy got a "This is how I roll" in there too o_O:confused:

In terms of playing style he seems to favour 4-2-3-1, but has also used 4-4-2. Northampton have played with high tempo and look to create and choose forward passing options, with quick forward movement into space as soon as they win the ball. Their counter attacking has been a strength. From what I've read, Wilder's playing style seems similar to Leicester's this season.

I always liked O'toole but I reckon they'll dig their heels in to stop Wilder from dismantling their squad. Reading there forum their best players are Bucanhan a left back, Holmes a winger and Smith a goal keeper. We need all three of those positions but it might be more likely that we can get some of the loan players that Wilder signed but are obviously not signed by Northampton. John Marquis and James Collins are both tall forward who have done well, but whether their better than what we have I don't know.

Hope it will be our style. In the recent years we have passed the ball too much lacking penetration and not having enough shots at goal. Hate it when we play square balls across the defence

Yes, I've thought it's been strange hearing Adkins talk about how he wants us to play fast, attacking football, and then seeing us play with such poor tempo and movement.
