Oh dear...

Alex Sabella has announced that he is regrettably unable to attend Sunday's friendly match due to the high profile situation he currently finds himself in.

The former Blades star was expected to be at Bramall Lane on Sunday with Estudiantes but Maradona's recent dismissal as manager of the Argentine national side has led to Sabella emerging as a leading candidate to replace him.

He said: "I have been so looking forward to returning to my former club, Sheffield United, and would like to apologise to Blades fans that I am unable to attend and hope they understand the ongoing situation here in Argentina.

"Sheffield United is a club that I feel great emotions towards and I sincerely hope to be able to visit in the near future.

"I would like to thank Sheffield United etc for all their efforts which are greatly appreciated. The feedback from my assistant Guillermo Trama and my team regarding the visit has been overwhelmingly positive and I am proud that they are able to visit my old club."

Huge shame but totally understandable.

Now, who'd like to be first to try and blame the club for it.....

Unavoidable, and understandable.

The fixture tomorrow certainly loses some of it's appeal though. No Sabella, and probably no Veron.

It's a toss up between McCabe, Blackwell and Andy Taylor as to who's at fault for this one!

It's a pity though, perhaps he could bring the national team next year? :)

Not enough foresight from the club that's for certain.

Typical United.

It is extremely dissapointing! As seeing him was really half the point of tomorrow. I'm sure it will be an interesting game anyway and it cant be helped. Its just typical of United's luck really as I think the entire club was excited about his return.

If Estudiantes had anything about them they would play Veron as compensation but I guess that wont concern them in the same way. Plus he went to the WC so its cotton wool time for him!

WELL.... if we'd signed Maradona when we allegedly tried to, sabella wouldnt even be part of the clubs history so it wouldnt matter. Hassall out!!! ;-)

He can make up for this disappointment by bringing his new team to the Lane for a friendly.

Couldnt imagine Morgan marking Messi! It would be fun watching morgs booting him into row J

Two Argentines and a Friendly eh?

Well, one out of three isn't bad.
