To be fair
Tins of peas might have bean more effective at centre back last season.
As I say, if the CB issue is sorted prior to the season starting that will be a tick in he box. If it isn't then that will be a major problem that will persist.
There are only 3-4 pre season games at first team level of any quality left to work on. If you are looking to replace people in such critical positions wouldn't you want to get them in place so that they could get to know their team mates, settle in, get to understand the set plays (both defensive and attacking) and get into their surroundings?
The alternative is that you get players in last minute and thrust them into the melting pot and expect them to perform from minute one. That's not planning, that's flying by the seat of your pants.
On the other hand, if we are content with Collins and McEveley then the limit of ambition this season is abundantly clear. It's play offs not autos.
There's less than three weeks to go to the first match of the league season. At what point is it time to have any level of concern at all? Should we still be a work in progress as it starts and how far does that extend into the season? One week? The obligatory 10 games? November? Christmas? It's such a familar tune.
The teams that do well in any league season are those that get their house in order early doors and hit the ground running.
If our squad remains as it is then the only thing it will be hitting is the fan.
