For LB Hill is adequate cover. At CH he is not. Was completely out of his depth in the Walsall game when playing there...

Cant see Pool being interested in him, they can attract much better and quicker players for that position.

Agreed. Swansea might have taken a gamble on him, but he'd get slaughtered at 'pool due to the expectation level.

For his career, HM's best move is a good Championship club where he plays regularly (or staying with us!!!) You don't need pace at the back if you have a good footballing head on your shoulders (evidence:John Terry, Vidic), but at 19/20 you need to be playing games to develop that experienced head...

He's better than Williams, at least defensively (not that it's saying much...).

Makes me worry about LJF's fitness, as Hill is really not adding much to the squad as evidenced by his mediocre performances, even if he looked at least a solid defender by the play-offs.

LJF did his Cruciate I believe on the 1st March. This is the same injury suffered by Morgan and Taylor. If we see him before Christmas it will be amazing.

Agree, that's why I believe Hill has been offered a deal. Left back and cover for CB (in case Maguire does go and we cannot get another CB in - assuming we don't just want any old tat to fill the void)
To be fair to Hill, after a dodgy start, he did look pretty solid in the three play off games and he started to pass the ball better than he did for his first few matches.

So did I but maybe it was conditional on us getting promotion.
Since he was dropped for the final he may think that he would be better off elsewhere, especially if he believes Cresswell plus one other is the way DW will play it next season and he sees himself as a sub doe Cresswell

I think, on balance, Porter might stay. Has had a relatively injury free season and knows that Cresswell is on the last year of his contract. May see this as a season where he can establish himself, play more regularly and score some goals (if DW gets the supply right).

Wonder how many of the squad, who have been offered new deals, are sitting on it to see what the others are doing. If there is an exodous of the youngsters and the established pros that have been offered a new deal (on reduced terms cos of where we are) we will be left with the high earners and low performers that we cannot shift, which will hamstring DW in the transfer market even more.

Critical part of next season right now. I reckon if KMac goes elsewhere it may trigger a few more.

I believe Quinn and Monty are on their way as they want to move to a total passing game as per the Academy. The prospects from the Academy are starting to become mouth watering so I hear. I guess if we are going to blood a lot of them at once this is the division to do it in.

The comparison to Crewe is that we will continue to produce good players (like Harry and Lowton) from the academy but rather than produce them for our first team we are likely to sell them (earlier than in previous seasons) to clubs in the Champ and Prem and remain in the lower leagues, like Crewe.

Even a loan will be difficult with the pressure on salaries over the FFP rules.

I think it will be hard to shift Montgomery so we will be stuck with him for the best part of the season and that restricts what DW can do (paying off his contract will still form part of the salary calcs so that has screwed us too) - We will find that we have to play him, if only on the off chance that someone might want a combative, defensive midfielder and take him off our hands, we may not have a choice since we cannot afford any replacement without shifting him first.

If I may take this a point at a time.
I do not think the Academy is a selling players project, however we are a third tier team (not be design but through a series of unfortunate events and very poor upper tier management from the 10/11 season). Harry has been looked at all year and very big clubs wanting to get in early either to stop other clubs getting him or for development in two or three years. It is not the intention to sell any of the Academy kids but with the money mentioned to the players via their agents and the fee for them makes it difficult. Man City for instance came in through Scott Sellers and comvinced the parents of four very promising of our current U9's to go to their academy instead of ours. Do you think we can just tell people to stay at the club? they are free humans not slaves. But there is a massive effort to convince both Matty and Harry to stay as they will get first team games and therefore develop without being farmed out i.e. Jorden Slew. The emphasis is to build from them not to sell but we are restricted by our league status. If we have to sell them it does mean revenue into the club which can be invested more so than the other clubs in this division and the majority of the Championship and therefore we can build a better squad than our rivals. Something Crewe cannot do.

Lecsy was used to show we have other capable senior players in the squad and fortunately the season does not end in Sept. Fingers crossed.

It is hoped McDonald will stay however if not we will be adopting an all passing game rather than a quarterback passing style game (from what I believe).

Forward line Cressy Porter Philliskirk and another (possibly a loan)

Someone will take Monty his ilk are always popular in the Championship. Quinny will also go somewhere easily enough.

The club have changed ethos since the Warnock / Blackwell era with a massive confidence in the Academy. Which with the two Kyles, Lowton, McGuire and Slew is understandable.

In my experience, those kids that shine at under 9 are not necessarily that much better than their counterparts at under 15/16
There is so much physical development between those ages no one can predict who will be good enough at 17/18
Another case of greed being the motivation over what's best for the kids

To be fair Crewe had 8 years in the 2nd tier between 1997 and 2006, which for a club of their size was a pretty impressive acheivement.

DANNY Wilson is plotting a root and branch reform of Sheffield United’s administrative affairs after expressing concerns about who really holds the balance of power at Bramall Lane.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of free agents Lee Williamson, Kevin McDonald and Chris Porter continuing to cast a shadow over the League One club’s manoeuvres in the transfer market, Wilson outlined how he plans to wrestle control from the players and place it back in the hands of coaching staff and directors instead.

“You don’t want your better players all entering the last year of their contracts at the same time,” the United manager said. “It might have been allowed to happen in the past but I can assure you that it won’t be allowed to happen again.”
Although Wilson appeared circumspect about the impasse involving key members of the squad which reached last season’s League One play-off final, his patience will be sorely tested if it continues to drag on.

United have already identified several targets - including Hibernian’s David Wotherspoon, Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp and Stuart Beavon of Wycombe Wanderers - but apparently are unable to officially sign off Wilson’s budget until the matter is resolved.

Wilson must tread carefully through the rumour, claim and counter claim surrounding the motives of Williamson, McDonald and Porter. He recently conceded quick answers would be preferable but, having acknowledged their representatives are busy touting them around rival clubs, can not risk alienating the individuals concerned at such a delicate stage. United also look set to open negotiations aimed at extending existing deals when they complete the majority of their business.
“That’s something we’ll definitely be trying to do,” Wilson added. “We’ll be talking with some of those who are still under contract.”

As far as I know, Kennedy and Chaps are expecting to be a part of things next season. Not sure on Harriot. Tel is recovering from a knee op though.
