It may be that LJF wont be fit for the start of the new season and with Williams injured as well its a key position to fill, short term. Also have to consider what happens if Maguire gets seduced by some lower half prem side to sit on the bench in their reserves for a year like Slew did. Hill may be a cost effective cover for both positions. Please no... there has to be better out there.

Apparently Brendan Rogers was a fan of Maguire so now he has gone to Liverpool there may be some doubt about Maggers staying next term

Cant see Pool being interested in him, they can attract much better and quicker players for that position.
Hill was excellant in the 3 play off games and I think would be a good league one signing for usPlease no... there has to be better out there.

@BladesRumours (sounds like a hair dressing salon that doesn't it)
He's better than Williams, at least defensively (not that it's saying much...).The fact that he is the only player from yesterday still on the player profiles page of the OS suggests to me that this is true.

Makes me worry about LJF's fitness, as Hill is really not adding much to the squad as evidenced by his mediocre performances, even if he looked at least a solid defender by the play-offs.
Agree, that's why I believe Hill has been offered a deal. Left back and cover for CB (in case Maguire does go and we cannot get another CB in - assuming we don't just want any old tat to fill the void)LJF did his Cruciate I believe on the 1st March. This is the same injury suffered by Morgan and Taylor. If we see him before Christmas it will be amazing.
So did I but maybe it was conditional on us getting promotion.Chris Porter is on the pfa website as being out of contract
Thought he had a year left??
It is my understanding that the club want to bring 6 players that they think are ready from the Academy / development squad into the first team squad. Terry Kenedy is not ready due to a terrible season because of injury. Harry unsuprisingly has been watched all year. The Blades want to keep him but its Premier League teams with serious money that are interested. I believe Quinn and Monty are on their way as they want to move to a total passing game as per the Academy. The prospects from the Academy are starting to become mouth watering so I hear. I guess if we are going to blood a lot of them at once this is the division to do it in.
If we rely that much in youth then prepare to be the next Crewe and be stuck in this division for a long long time to come
Yes Harry and Matty have been a calamity we'll be here forever.Remember they have publicly stated they want to sign McDonald and Porter. Doyle, Collins and Cresswell are staying. Lexy will be fit again hopefully. Its not the board that have decided 6 will come through its the footballing people at the club that have identified these players i.e. Danny and Pembo. Also the comparison with Crewe is unfair as they do not have the facilities and coaching resources or the catchment that we have. The Academy is even stretching as far North as York to get players as we have full Academy status.
You missed the point Jezz. The comparison to Crewe is that we will continue to produce good players (like Harry and Lowton) from the academy but rather than produce them for our first team we are likely to sell them (earlier than in previous seasons) to clubs in the Champ and Prem and remain in the lower leagues, like Crewe.
Lex will not be available until late September (not a product of our youth system) - that's why Hill has been offered a deal to stay. That and Williams still being injured.
If McDonald does not agree a new deal with us I expect a number of others will not do so either.
The area that concerns me most is the forward line. We have nothing to offer to be a consistent threat and be up at the top of the division next year without significant investment. This must mean the sale of Quinn, Lowton and Maguire otherwise we will have to rely on Bosman's (the usual array of ineffective journeymen strikers) or the loan of a young Prem striker (untested and a gamble). Even a loan will be difficult with the pressure on salaries over the FFP rules.
I think it will be hard to shift Montgomery so we will be stuck with him for the best part of the season and that restricts what DW can do (paying off his contract will still form part of the salary calcs so that has screwed us too) - We will find that we have to play him, if only on the off chance that someone might want a combative, defensive midfielder and take him off our hands, we may not have a choice since we cannot afford any replacement without shifting him first.
Don't disagree with what you replied Jezza.
(never implied that players should be kept against their will btw)
Just see us in danger of being merely a feeder club to others with a higher league status.
To the extent that we scupper any chance of promotion because we cannot compete anymore.
btw Man City getting kids from Utd Under 9s is pathetic. As if they will get a better chance of first team football there.
In my experience, those kids that shine at under 9 are not necessarily that much better than their counterparts at under 15/16
There is so much physical development between those ages no one can predict who will be good enough at 17/18
Another case of greed being the motivation over what's best for the kids

Does anybody know what's happening with Kennedy, Harriot and Chappell?
According to this list they're out of contract but they weren't mentioned included in the list of eleven players who were released recently.
They haven't been mentioned by Wilson in his interviews about young prospects either?
Are they still with us? Have they gone? Or is it still to be decided?
I'm pretty sure we have freed up some Darius Henderson wages too - I heard he went to Millwall with us still paying a fair whack of his wages ?
