Based on media and supporter speculation that would appear to be fairly accurate.

I cant think of a strong enough reason to keep any of the out of contract players. Other than perhaps McDonald I dont think you can justify the kind of wages most of them are probably on at this level. It represents an opportunity to start balancing the books and for rebuilding.

Looking at that list, the priorities for next season will be a wide player, a midfielder and two strikers. If we can keep the same defence together we have a good platform.
 
Look at the end of next season though, we would have 7 players left. Balance the books, get rid of the out of contract players there all past it. Use some of the wages their on albeit not alot to offer new contacts to some of the players on June 2013 contracts, that we want to be the focal point of the team in the next few seasons, the spine of the team!
 
For the out of contract players, I think Kennedy and Willo might stay on, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Beattie still here either. Not sure about Harriott, hadn't realised his time was up this year. Can't see us keeping Willo AND K-Mac, but I think we'll manage to keep one of them. Same goes for Maguire and Lowton, I think one of them will still be with us come the start of the season. Out of the rest of the contracted players, we'll obviously get offers for Quinn but I'm starting to have a funny feeling he'll never leave (which is good in my books). And there's always one surprise that no one expects any offers to come in for (Bogdanovic to Blackpool for instance) and I think we may see either Cresswell or Porter go. Lastly, Morgs will probably hang up his playing boots, will be amazed if he's still part of the playing squad next year. Out of the current squad, this is my best guess for who will be here (as a player) at the end of the Summer:

Personally I'd be happy if we kept everyone in this list (for reasonable wages of course). Hopefully Kennedy could step up in Maguires shoes and McAllister could do the same for McDonald. Strikers would be our biggest problem, as shown when Evans was sentenced we're severely lacking when it comes to goalscorers.
 
Would expect Kennedy to make the step up next season. Very promising talent.

Depends how long it takes to get over his injury and back to fitness... Not had a fantastic year on the injuries front this one.

Agree, be a real shame for him to miss out on being around the squad to start the season. But always option to loan out when fully fit which could pay dividends at a later date
 
Why do some want to keep Beattie and Creswell for gods sake they are both too old and slow both cannot do 90minutes as their legs have gone, lets look to the future guys not the past.
 
This is what i would do.

Goalkeepers:
Steve Simonsen - Out of contract
Offer a one year rolling contract. Think he has is not the greatest keeper but more than good enough at this level
George Long - Contracted till end of June 2016
Still only 18 and has a lot to learn. I'd be looking at loaning him out for the season somewhere next year
Mark Howard - Contracted till end of June 2014
Can't imagine him being on huge wages, although i've never seen him, think he is probably and understudy and not much more

Defenders:
Lescinel Jean-Francois - Contracted till end of June 2013
Still wasn't entirely convinced by Big Lesc when he got injured
Chris Morgan - Contracted till end of June 2013
Think Morgs will not be back from injury and will be more than likely to join the coaching staff
Johnny Ertl - Out of contract
Release on a free. One of the worst players i've seen for the Blades
Neill Collins - Contracted till end of June 2013
Offer a new 3 year deal, on slightly reduced terms conversant with League 1
Harry Maguire - Contracted till end of June 2015
Keep as it is, will be a lot better next season now he has got another years experience.
Marc Warren - Out of contract
Release on a free.
Andy Taylor - Out of contract
Release on a free, not good enough
Marcus Williams - Contracted till end of June 2014
Keep as he is
Matthew Lowton - Contracted till end of June 2014
Try and get him to sign an extended contract
Terry Kennedy - Out of contract - But expected to stay on.

Been there too long, and not really kicked on as much as we would have hoped. I'd be tempted to cash in and get £500k for him, as the wages he will free up will pay for K Mac
Matty Harriot - Out of contract
Not really pushed on as we would have liked. Give him a low cost 2 year deal, and let him spend some time out on loan.
Ryan Flynn - Contracted till end of June 2014
I think Flynn will have a better season next year, and will be a bit more consistant, and hopefully be one of the key players.
Erik Tønne - Contracted till end of June 2014
Did well early on, but still plenty of time for him to develop. Will need some time away from the club on loan.

Strikers:

James Beattie - Out of contract
Release him. Was the biggest disappointment of the season.
Richard Cresswell - Contracted till end of June 2013
I'd keep Cresswell for next season, even though he is knocking on a bit, he still has the nous and experience to be an important player for us next season.
Chris Porter - Contracted till end of June 2013
Keep him on but just as back up.
Jordan Chappell - Out of contract
Think he will be released on a free TBH.
Danny Philliskirk - Contracted till end of June 2013.
Not really pulled up any trees, and don't think he will come through and be a player for us.

Think we need to bring in a decent left-back, cover for the centre half and right back positions. Also need to look to bringing in some quality cover in the midfield, and at least 2 strikers (ideally i'd would be looking at Billy Paynter and Will Hoskins if the price is right.

I just think he is at this level. Howard is untested for me, and Long still has a lot to learn. I'd give him another year.

Possibly because we don't have a choice in the matter. He's still got another year left on his contract and I think it unlikely that we will receive any offers for him. In fairness he also played quite well this season and worked well with Evans.
 
Of course, Evans might get out on appeal* Should we offer him a new contract if he is facing a re-trial?

* I think this unlikely, but as people have pointed out my legal judgment tends to be the kiss of death in United related matters.....

Didn`t you say that he would still be remanded in custody even if his appeal is sucessful, on the assumption that the CPS go for a re-trial?

No, he will probably get bail if his conviction is quashed and he faces a re-trial given that he was on bail throughout the original trial.

I think we would do that if he faces a re-trial as probably no-one else would touch him. If the conviction is quashed and there is no re-trial, I think he would be off like a shot for more money to a second tier team and sod United standing by him for a season (cf Paddy Kenny 2010).

Chappell was out of contract at the end of the season as well. Strange that he hasn't been mentioned.
 
Highbury_Blade I would have thought that the three young players thought to be out of contract at the end of the season are in for discussions. Players' contracts run to June 30th; this "released" list is just official confirmation that we're not renewing the named players' deals and they're free to find new clubs.

I'd expect to hear that new contracts have been agreed with Kennedy, Harriot and Chappell in the next couple of weeks - probably only 12 months though.
