Yeah, not great. Can only assume they’ll do something behind closed doors between now and Birmingham.

Shite that. Could we not have got Man U, seeing as they cancelled their game against Preston?

Just got to make sure we don’t get on their backs if we lose the first game or two. Players won’t be fully match fit or had too much experience with the new tactics. Just remember what happened when we lost our first games under wilder in league 1. However, the other side of the argument could be that we really need to good start to prevent heads dropping as they’ve just come off probably the worst seasons of all of there careers

Very worrying pre season all because we decided to go to Spain.

I'm no covid expert but would the same have happened to the squad if Burke / Verrips had got covid while in the UK?

Spain or not we’d have still missed out on playing Norwich as it’s them who have covid in the camp not us.

I was referring to the two friendlies behind closed doors that were cancelled when we were isolating

But your argument is still invalid because Norwich didn’t go to Spain and they were still struck down, damned if you do, dammed if you don’t
I'm not arguing. I'm just saying it's a worrying pre-season with a lack of matches.

Also asking whether Spain was the issue, ie could of the rest of the squad carried on training had a case of covid come up while the team was in the uk (like Billy Gilmour for Scotland the rest of the squad carried on).

I think they had to isolate due to the flight abroad. The team had to stay at home for a week and missed out on vital team shaping

Piss poor from the club. I don’t believe for a second we couldn’t arrange a fixture. Any opposition would’ve sufficed considering the circumstances.

Now they have to fuck about with refunding both payment and loyalty points.
Any idea on what the Covid Protocols are? I don't,,, I suspect those rules and the late cancelation by Norwich, have been factors in not being able to arrange something, I also expect a decision was taken by the management team that more could be gained by not arranging a last minute game against just anyone and work on shape/formation and the starting line up at Shirecliffe or the Lane, than facing the 2nd team from the Dog and Duck.

Is the other issue not that if we play a team (say Burnley) this weekend, and it turns out one of their players has COVID, then we will have to isolate for a week, and therefore be unavailable for the season opener? Wonder if thats a risk factor other teams are considering so close to the season kicking off.

Potentially...might even do us some good to get Brum postponed!

Do wonder if the Carlisle cup game could've been brought forward to this midweek like the pigs have done with Udders?

Surely they could do U23 v First Team behind closed doors this weekend unless they dont want First Team to be embarrased week before the opener. :)

This is an Outraageeee, clearly the prince & bettis are only bothered about selling players

How hard can it be to pick up the phone to arsenal/man utd and ask them for a game at the weekend

Any slow start to the season is on them no wonder wilder walked

No players of worth have been sold yet.
very hard as Man U have covid. Arsenal v Chelsea Sunday.

What a silly inaccurate comment. :)

Don't ask Boris he's no idea either! 🤔

Are they allowing postponements? Or would you be forced to play your U18s?

I think having another isolation period would be a real killer for us. In hindsight, I agree the cup game would be perfect for this Saturday. At least where it is, it will allow some fringe and youth players to get a game, if it was this weekend it would be the first teamers getting more minutes under their belts.

What is piss poor? You think the club didn't want a fixture?

Its a bit glass half full/empty, especially regarding those that have been out with injury long term, when they often have setbacks in the first few competitive games, Berge has potentially lost out on another 45 minutes of playing time, but on the other hand he has also missed out on a few tackles, niggles etc

Sadly, some will already be flaying the club along similar lines, without your irony.

So we ain't got a friendly Covid strikes again, and with the fabulous potential of the tract & trace lots of clubs won't have a game as it pings the nation. There's even a chance it could mess up season start, friendlies are to get players match fit and practice, other than that they are not a gauge to how season will pan out.

Brum have had 3 games, they beat Cheltenham 3-0, drew 1-1 with Barrow and lost 3-2 to Northampton Town. They play West Brom tomorrow so will probably get thrashed. Probably not the pre-season they wanted either albeit they will have had more games. Keep the faith and UTB

The cancellation of the Norwich game at short notice is, of course, perfect preparation for the season ahead. Having to find another way of getting & keeping match fit & learning the system without regular games. Because, short notice cancellations are what this shit show season are going to be all about. Might as well be prepared for it.
