How much of an advantage is there now with being a home team?
Is it just an irrelevant fact?
Which teams gained most from their home games and their fan support?
We certainly gained an advantage last season. Liverpool are certainly commenting about the missing fans. Maybe clubs that struggled last year, West Ham, Newcastle etc, where there was fan unrest, will benefit from the empty stadiums. I would rather play West Ham in a full stadium of angry cockneys, than an empty one

Home advantage stretches further than just the fans, at least in theory. Footballers have spoken about how familiar surroundings - knowing where certain visual cues are, like gangways, edges of stands, scoreboards, and so on - help them place themselves spatially on the pitch.

I agree with what you’re getting at. Man U have done particularly well during lockdown. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has obviously solved a tactical shortcoming, but similarly they look better when they’re man-for-man without a hostile, dissatisfied Old Trafford crowd on their back. Matches become more about the quality of individuals against one another when all the other factors (the crowd, the atmosphere, the pressure) are lost.

(That said, we did of course beat Spurs and Chelsea.)
