I think on 21 October when we play Yeovil at home, Nigel will have managed 1000 games.

I've taken the current number (997) from Wiki, so I hope it is right.

The LMA only recognises League and Cup games and there are only 23 managers have ever achieved this, one of whom was his father, two more being Dave Bassett and Neil Warnock.

This is a great achievement even if it includes a lot of Conference games.

Frustrating as the league start has been, we should get right behind Nigel for this. He currently has the best win ratio of any manager in our history. Think back a year to one of the worst. Things are definitely getting better.

Strangely, his 1000th match will be his 46th for us.
I'm assuming the 1000 actually includes cup games as well, otherwise it'll be later in the season. I think it'll be his 58th competitive game in charge.

Clough did great for us last season - hence the impressive win ratio with us. His record overall isn't so great though - 418 wins, 168 draws & 411 defeats, particularly as much of that was in non-league. He had an average record with Burton and quite a poor one with Derby.

As will be obvious from some of my posts, I've been distinctly unimpressed with Clough since the end of last season (signings, team selections & tactics) - although I realise some of that is down to our hopeless Board not providing decent funds. I still hope Clough comes good this season of course.

Cloughs games with Burton are Conference, does that negate the number , is it only football league games that count

Was just thinking the same myself. If they count non-league games then they'll have to include the bloke who's managed the Dog and Duck for the past 30 years.

Good point that may well be the case, so the LMA wouldn't count Conference games.

He has still managed nearly 1000 games which is a hell of an achievement for someone who isn't yet 50 years old.

He may only have about 300 League and Cup games though.

Interesting that the OP mentions Warnock, Bassett and Clough senior, all of whom achieved considerably more in the way of trophies and promotions than our Nigel has. Hopefully he can redress this matter starting this season.

There can't be many managers out there, who've managed a 1000 games, and someone who could be classed as a very good manager,if they're still only at league one level.I hope i'm wrong.

I thought you were going to say the milestone was 50 games for us. In recent times its some mean feat.
