Nice Paul Heaton and Blades article.

I would love to see the solid evidence of this self promotion, it couldn't just be they didn't want a convicted criminal at the club. Would love to know how any patron can promote the club in the community in a positive manner when we chose to have said criminal at our club.

If these holier than thou minor celebrities didn't want a convicted criminal at the club then I refer you back to my previous question as to why none of them who were so principled over Evans being offered use of the training facilities took the same action when King was signed. Is anyone able to answer that please rather that blindly try to defend the actions of one ex-Patron in particular (although nobody seems to be offering the same to Webster, Berry or any of the others) who not only didn't previously seem to have an issue with being associated with convicted criminal and member of the club's well known hooligan element but was also regular acquaintance of his and others from the group.

The idea that Paul Heaton needs a grubby 3rd Division striker to publicise his career is laughable.

Are you also of the opinion then that Charlie Webster didn't use the incident for self-publicity and to further her career?

Utter tosh! Every 'celebrity' who decided not to stand by the club in its time of need decided to use the opportunity to abandon it and their roles for their self-publicity/gain and gave little or no thought to the impact their decision would have on the club.

The only one I have some (albeit not a lot) sympathy for is Ennis who simply asked for her name to be removed from the stand as a result of huge pressure from the feminazis. Whether her name should have been added in the first place is another argument.

To clarify, I am not one of the pro-Ched movement. Personally, I never wanted him (or King) at the club whilst he still had the conviction to his name but take huge exception to those who used the incident for their own personal gain - Heaton and Webster being by far the two biggest culprits.

At least it will make the club consider much more carefully who to appoint to appoint to such roles in future.
Yeah like all Jean Hatchett supporters then went to Paul Heaton gigs!

I don’t think Heaton was using it to further his career. I think he offered an opinion. It wasn’t one I agreed with but it was one he was completely entitled to.

The only one I thought was behaving in a self-serving manner was Webster. She took every opportunity she could to appear in as many places as she could being as vocal as possible about her stance. That in itself might be fair enough but when you consider she took absolutely no voiced stance over the King signing, made adoring comments about convicted rapist Mike Tyson and then slanderously accused the club of trying to bury the news that he was allowed to train with us. She took every opportunity to twist the knife and demonstrate hypocrisy at the same time which seemed odd for one who proclaimed themself to be so principled.

No issues with Heaton for me. He’s a blade who had a different opinion to me. There’s plenty of them out there.

I hope this thread keeps going bc these responses are getting barmier and barmier.

Is this the same Paul Heaton who ran down the wrong side of Wembley way in 93? Women and kids got hurt that day

I did stuff 23-odd years ago that I'm not proud off today, I bet the same goes for a lot of people

vile Charlie Webster

Vile? Really?! Even if she took advantage of the Ched Evans stuff for a bit of publicity, which is debatable perhaps, that's cynical and opportunistic at worst, but vile? If that's really how you feel I'm amazed at the strength of feeling you've summoned up for this issue, but can't help but feel it's misplaced.

Ok, saved them from an even bigger disaster than the one we got.

I'm not convinced it would have been that much more of a disaster. I think we were nearing Peak Ched when the club decided to back off. The media storm IMO was exacerbated because we were dithering about whether we'd sign him or not.

I'm glad we didn't in the end mind.
