General consensus tonight seems to be weir out now or given a number of games to improve..

If he goes, who woul you like to take us on?

Robert Di Matteo or Gus Poyet

Some good managers will buy into us now

All else fails - Neil Warnock

Warnock.

I mean ... can things get any worse?

In seriousness, do people - even the Warnock haters - think we'd crash further through the trapdoor?

I don't think the manager is the problem. The problem is the players. The players are dog-dirt because we are reduced to buying second-raters and putting our faith in choppers like McMahon, lightweights like Murphy and Flynn and deadweights like Porter. We are buying turd players because we sell all our 'decent' ones, and we buy turd players because we have no cash - step forward McCabe.

Darren Ferguson ,love the way his teams play football ,some handy connection too.

Why would Darren Ferguson come here?

It's a right mess. Needs a big clear out. Gus Poyet may be interested, though i doubt it. He would probably leave if he did well anyway. And the presumed tampering from above would put off a lot of managers. I haven't got a clue. Not much use bringing anybody in, if they don't get to buy some players. And the players they want, not the ones some faceless wonder in the board room wants.

Money and a bigger club with bigger prospects ,that's why Ferguson would come ,he went to Preston after all .
Poyet will be untouchable until all the legalities are dealt with regarding his 'evacuation' from the Brighton 'mess' :)

Hate to say it but I think the best man for the job (who may actually take it) is indeed Mr Warnock

I'd definitely take Ferguson, but can't see it happening. He's on a cushy number where he is. Championship squad, no real pressure. He'd be crackers to come here. I had that Warnock thought myself. There's no doubt he'd shake them up. But long term it wouldn't be a good move. Don't think it would be fair to just bring him back til January. The last thing we need is giving someone the job for a few months, get a few wins then end up having to hire them longterm.

But the Neil deal might be - get us to the Championship and a job 'upstairs'.

Any manager who comes - the aim isn't the Championship. The first aim is to stabilise the slide, ditch the shit players, bring in decent loaness and persuade McCabe to part with his/our cash in Jan and buys a fucking squad.

I'm in two minds over this, my head is telling me to give Weir time but my heart says this isn't working. Get Warnock in for 18 months.

I appreciate things don't magically happen over night. But then you look at the squad, it really is a piss poor team with one or two decent players ( Long, Baxter, Cuveiller) and but there is more shite than good (Williams, McMahon, Taylor etc). Now I have always been a big fan of Chris Porter mainly because you know he will give 100% every time, but unfortunately effort isn't all we need. We need a ruthless striker. We need a winger. Ideally I would like a left back as well. Now I may get slated for this but I think we could do a lot worse than Nicky Shorey (sure he's on a free) and Marlon King on short term deals till January with an option to extend if WE desire.

Something needs to change and it needs to change quick. We need to scrap the whole lone striker as well. At least for the time being. We don't have the strike force or the creativity in my opinion for this to work.

At the moment this is the team I would personally play.

Long
Hill Maguire Collins Westlake
McFadzean Cuveiller Doyle Brandy
Murphy Baxter

Me. I could do a better job.

I would make sure we didn't lose to Carlisle, MK Dons, Rotherham, Bradford and the mighty Burton Albion.

I would sign proven players rather than nobodies.

And I would get shut of the dead wood, put them on the transfer list and announce it like other clubs do. And if no-one comes in for them, and they didn't buck their ideas up, their contracts are cancelled / paid up at Christmas.

We have no more time for wasters. Our fans deserve better.

Poyet, curbishley, Pearce, keane, Mcclaren, coppell, Adrian chiles the kid next door who's just won the champs league with burton on FM13!?!? I'd take Poyet or Roy keane

Danny Wilson? Just kidding but in all seriousness i think getting rid of him was a huge mistake. I'd actually quite like Ian Dowie got quite a good record of in the football league and seems a decent guy.

Ain't that what Weir trying now?

Some of the names here are hilarious. We couldn't attract any established decent managers only a few months ago (one of the reasons why Weir was appointed in the first place), and as has been highlighted in the last couple of weeks there will be limitations to how much of the new investment can be used at this stage. And that was while we seemingly already had a team on paper capable of the top 6.

We are now a team near the relegation zone, minus our best player from the summer's squad, totally devoid of confidence. And were we to sack Weir, any new boss would see the new regime has zero patience, having given Weir a mere 7 games.

What an attractive proposition.

I'd prefer Weir to just have some common sense, stop trying to force players who can't cope to play some negative tippy-tappy nonsense with no attacking intent, and just pick the best a bad bunch and try to score more goals than the other team. That's the right way to play football.

Not sure I agree.

I think Weir has a stronger squad than the one Wilson had when he was sacked (when we were in the top 6).
Weir has signed some quality players for L1, it just seems we have summat missing to me and I'm not sure what.
Tactics don't seem great, we have no plan B.
The formation looked quite handy against Notts County, but since we've never looked like scoring tbh.
The players also don't look fired up, we haven't players who will go box to box (like the NM legend :o) ) or players who can intimidate the opposition. I think we are generally too "lightweight." Not sure if that is the nature of the players that we have or a lack of motivation perhaps.
Having said all that, I'm not sure he should be sacked yet as we all knew it was a massive gamble employing a rookie coach, he may need a bit longer to find his feet. It must be a big shock being the boss of the first team after being an assistant etc.

Despite his history, I personally think it was a mistake sacking Wilson when we did, am sure thought McCabe thought he could do a Wendy.....

Completely agree with the lack of plan B, I can't remember the last time we had one truth be told. Wilson never needed one in the first season until we lost Ched and we all remember how that ended. Again I agree we're too lightweight with no "bullies" for want of a better word, however I have noticed on here McMahon gets some stick for the way he goes about his business, same could be said for Kitson last year. Its not nice what they do but every team needs bastards like them.

With regards to the sacking of Wilson I think we all agree it was a stupid time to sack him. If anything he should have gone after the Coventry game in February.
