That’s not a rule though?

I remember looking this up once for a similar thread ages ago. Seems it is a UEFA rule that the FA also agree to adhere to. It's about contrast between the colours, so there's not many colours the numbers could be on red and white stripes. Mainly just blue, which we're not going to do.

Found reference to the rules here... https://medium.com/boothen-end-view/a-question-of-stripes-a1cee0d18e19

"
  • appear centrally on the back of the shirt (10.01)
  • be a single colour with a minimum contrast between it and the background colour (10.02, more detail on this later)
  • have a ‘free zone’ around each number, using “a single-colour background if so required” (10.03, again more detail on this later)
  • between 25cm and 35cm in height, with a width between 2cm and 5cm (10.04)
  • clearly legible from at least 50 metres, in both daylight and floodlight (10.05)
  • optionally include a shadow outline or “contrasting key line” to improve legibility (10.09).
"

Me too, I would do a little excitement wee, their kits are class.

As you'll probs know Nalis, in me, you'll have a big supporter of this idea. Red is markedly better than white, but stripes are infinitely better than both.

Our worst kids have been the anniversary kit, the white back promotion Ramsdens shirt and this season's white back shirt. All heavily involve white, all Adidas, all horrendous.

The Ramsdens shirt was definitely the most annoying one, because from the front it was great. Looked neat and smart and only needed the lettering on the sponsor to be black instead of green.
But then the back immediately made it look fucking shite and ruined the lot.

As I said above, all I want is a pretty simple striped shirt, with maybe a little touch of class like the 96/97 one or the ones we had in the 70's maybe, and yet frequently they fuck it up.

The cheapest, wankest looking shirt we’ve ever had. Umbro couldn’t even be arsed to line up the stripes with the neck and collar. 👎🏻
I don't get the love for that kit either. Stripes didn't line up, lace collar was horrid, and it was covered in pulls within two weeks of wearing it.

What about black?

I've heard that it's not going to be Adidas but an 'in house' design/manufacture like the Pigs Elev8 (but hopefully better) !

Also shirt sponsor will be Saudia Airlines.
Sponsorship of 300 million per season ??

What we could've won...

Just remind me of this:

Completely agree mate, it does me too - that said, it's a huge upgrade on what we currently have, which looks like 3 kits merged into one.

Rumour has it, Bettis had final sign off on all 3 kits this season, and all 3 have been an utter flop, with the green the best of the lot.

What we could've won...

See, much better - although I'm still not sold. This now tells me that primarily white sleeves are not OK either, it's a learning curve 😂 we look too Sunderland-y.

Are we definitely done with Adidas this year?

Plus I thought there was a suggestion we were going down the home made route ala Beerschot?

Airlines are really making shedloads of dosh at the moment and for the foreseeable. Not.

The nicest bespoke kits I’ve seen outside the big brands are by Errea. If we go back to the non-trendy suppliers, they get my vote. Hummel are also forward-thinking and would give us something unique - but they ‘overbrand’ the shirts with the chevron branding at times.

USG won’t be the sponsor I wouldn’t have thought...

Its all about perception really, some own brand stuff can be crap, but most is similar quality to the branded stuff or in some cases better.

Anyone who buys a bit of standard adidas training gear at double the normal price just because it has a cheap blades transfer stuck to it is stupid, but they're the ones who complain most about own branded stuff.

On the actual kits, the brand doesn't matter so much as long as they're good quality, some of the Macron stuff was a bit ropey, even though they looked OK. Good own brand is better than a lesser brand with bits falling off.

As long as it’s traditional red white stripes with black and yes the River Plate kit is nice AND Stripes all the way down the back AND we use it away unless a clash of colours. AND no more shocking tranquil ******* Pink and nor more ******* Plymouth Argyle green.

AND Rant over

Just having a look on Classic footy shirts and thought this looked decent, Aalborg from 16/17. Prefer no detail on the stripes but do like a bit of Hummel.
