Christmas and New year is always an important time and this time around it could be a defining point for our season.

After we play the pigs on 12th of January we should have a better idea of where we are and where we are going.

Will we still be in promotion contention? Will we be settling down for mid table consolidation? Will we be in danger being dragged towards the bottom end and a possible relegation scrap?

So what will happen..? here I try to offer a few predictions and thoughts..

Aston Villa away,
Always going to be a hard game even with the full compliment, of course no Coutts but the loss of Fleck as well makes this especially tough, hopefully Duffy and Brooks are back in contention.

Prediction: Loss .

Sunderland home.
Many seem to have chalked us three points down in the book already, however look below the surface and it’s not that simple. Sunderland are a much better side away than at home, they also have a much better manager in charge than earlier this season when we won at their place and recently they drew at Wolves, ... and once again that crucial aspect.. No Fleck.

Prediction: Draw.

Bolton Home
After a plum home game fixture on Boxing Day the League computer serves us up its revenge with the Home New Years game against the tiresome, horrible to watch and play against Bolton. They seem to have taken against us recently and will treat this as their cup final, will be a right slog and we will need to be smart defending the set pieces. But big bonus should be the return of Fleck which may turn it our way.

Prediction Win.

Derby away
Our home victrory this season was one of the highlights of the opening run, but this is not one I’m looking forward too, Derby look pacey powerful and full of goals at home. Anything from this game would be a huge bonus.

Prediction Loss.

Sheffield Wednesday home
.
Not much to say except let’s turn the bastards over again. Form? players available,? who cares? all out the window.

Prediction Win.

So if I am correct Seven points.

Anyone take that number if offered?

I think I probably would.

Sneaky feeling we might get something at Villa, a draw anyway. No doubt we will then balls up against Bolton to compensate. Otherwise I agree with your predictions.

Just the 3 points will do out of that lot

No idea.

Just over a month ago, I'd have fancied our chances in all of them.

Five players injured later, and I'd take the seven points you've predicted all day long.

By the middle of January maybe we'll have most back fit, with a couple of good additions, and we could be looking at those sort of games as very winnable again.

Things change very quickly. I went from fancying us to get something at Preston to the opposite when Duffy and Brooks were announced as out an hour or so before kick off. If they're both available for Villa, we'll give them a game.

Seven points? I think Wilder would give his left bollock for that on current form.

I think between two and four points is more likely.

The Sunderland game is the one that gives me most concern. New manager Coleman is just beginning to turn it around. Boxing Day often throws up unexpected results. It could be one of those where we have about 70% possession and come away with nothing.

I don't want to predict any results or scores but what will be the next bit of bad luck that will befall us?
Must be a Clarke injury.

First home win in ages and keep on keeping clean sheets with Coleman in charge .....

Need Duffy and Brooke’s against Villa or we’ll create nowt going forward
but If we can’t keep a clean sheet we’re doomed I tell yer doomed.
Can’t really look past Villa game because it’s so massive for the blades.
I think sliding out of the top 6 would be a big psychological blow having been in top spot
not so long ago.Really hope we can hang on in there until fleck returns.
