Next 4 games

Been looking at the next 4 games and think we have a great chance of ending them at the very worst in the Top 2

Blackpool tomorrow we have a chance of laying down a real marker, they will come here with minimal support, low on confidence and at the minute are a real car crash of a club. If we get after them early on, and look to go out there and be ruthless and attack for the full 90 minutes we should win and win well, but I would be looking at not just winning, but giving them a real battering. We are good enough, having scored 5 in the last 2 games, and at the minute we look to have a lot of goals in the side. By giving them a proper drubbing we will also send a clear message out to the rest of the Division that we mean business this season.

Then after it is onwards to Swindon who have started positively and who have put 10 past us in the last couple of times we have down to their gaff. They look a lot weaker on paper that they was last season, and if we have battered Blackpool then they will be a lot more aware and nervous this time round. I would settle for a draw, as we look to build momentum and keep an unbeaten run going.

After that it is consecutive home fixtures against Colchester and Bury. Both sides are sides we should be beating, and beating comfortably if we have any real aspirations of getting promoted this season. If we got in to both of these games having only lost and drawn one since the start of the season, confidence will be high, and I think we should be looking at attacking from the off and getting an early goal to get us off and running, because our huge failing has been a consistent failure to make an early start at home games during the last 3 seasons, and has often enabled teams like Colchester and Bury to come to the Lane, keep us quiet for the first half hour until confidence has visibly drained from us before coming in to the game.

It is still early days, but I certainly think 10 points are achievable in the next 4 games.
 



Really big opportunity.

Blackpool - carcrash; Bury - promising side, but surprisingly sluggish start (& defensive problems?); Colchester - traditional strugglers.

And agree about Swindon being the interesting one among that little lot. Could be a bonus that we play them a couple of days before the transfer window - hopefully Nathan Byrne will have gone (or will have picked up an "injury" prior to going); same goes for Yaser Kasim. We'll need all the help we can get down there tbf. But big motivation for getting some revenge.
 
So that's, draw with Blackpool, win at Swindon, and a win and a draw at home to the other 2.
 
If that right winger of Swindon's is still there I hope whoever is our left back doesn't give him 20 yards every time. He was like sh!t off a shovel in the play-offs, booting him into the stands at the first opportunity would certainly help our course at Swindon this time around.

My understanding is that before the start of the season managers divide the games into 'blocks' and set points targets for each block. They then use this to benchmark against actual results.

As supporters it would be healthier if we lived for the moment and took each game as it comes. But we won't. We'll just project the most current result as being wholly indicative of our final league position.
So if we beat Swindon it'll be Europe in two years and if we lose to Blackpool it will be a Shakespearian tragedy.

Not worth the risk of the left back doing that early on and picking up a yellow. That was Bob's downfall, picked up a yellow early so had to stand off him for the rest of the game. Wouldn't mind Che tracking back to take a chunk out of him mind.
 
This never happens. Whenever I look at a set of fixtures expecting aout 12 points we end up with 2-5.
 
A side aiming for promotion really needs to make their home ground a fortress, rarely letting away teams escape with more than a point. That's what we need to do this season. No disrespect to them, but with a side like Blackpool, a promotion side should brush them aside sending a message to the harder teams to come. That's what we need to do. Hopefully under Adkins style we will!

Easier said than done and watch us now lose to a club in apparent free fall :rolleyes:
 
I'd take a point from Swindon now. Breaks up our 7 straight wins quite nicely ;)
 



Lets hope we can take 3pts from each game and hit top spot early in the season, how good would it be to see us dominate the division like Bristol C last season. Even when we won Div 4 we didn't really run away with it, I would love to see us promoted by next Easter. We can dream I suppose.

agreed, we need to be putting down our marker now and having others trying to play catch up with us for a change....
I suspect we wont be so fortunate tho'.

Swindon away will not be easy, take a point right now.
then Colchester home we need to take max points,
as we should v bury... that said, I know quite a bit about their lot after being taken to gig by a friend last year a few times
and following their forums etc....
once they get going they will be quite a force in this league...
had 3 or 4 very good players last year, and have added well this...

hopefully mid sept will still be too soon for them to click,
but I have a feeling it could well be our first banana skin of the season....

Not a problem provided our left back gets the ball first!

Harris' problem was he gave their right winger the freedom of the Lane, booking or no booking!! And what was his excuse in the return leg???

Unfortunately over the last 2 seasons we have performed very badly against the poorer teams. I know to some extent that could be down to Clough's tactics but there is always the "cup final factor" for teams coming to Bramall Lane and it seems that the more they are the underdog the better they play. Although it's very early days our tactics and team look much better equipped this season to beat the poor sides even if they do raise their game. However experience tells me it's not a good idea to speculate on future results.

Sorry to sound boring , but with the blades and football in general , lets take one game at a time . If not , fate will kick us in the bollocks , and we will finish up with 1 point out of 12 . Blackpool will not be a easy game . BDTBL attracts the best out of players , who seem to gain a extra yard , when playing us at home Ok it may well change under Adkins , but there are no easy games or guaranteed wins in this league ,or any other.

We have to be positive , but also professional in our planning and outlook . We have to build our reputation were clubs do not like coming to the lane . In the past the opposition have enjoyed it , alot more than we have .

The next 4 games are important , but so are the 4 after that , and so on .

Two points a game average should mean promotion so 8 from next four would do for me but anymore would give us breathing space
