I've been watching the Blades for almost half a century. I can tell you what a promotion side looks like. And this is a promotion side.

A really serious and not a piss take question: when did you actually see/know/believe this?

edit: I believe you btw

If we win any of our next three or four games, we will get three points for each win. If we only draw then we'll only get one point for each drawn game. If the other team score more than us by the end of the game, and we effectively lose that game, then we'll get no points for that game. On this basis, I agree. The next three or four games will tell us exactly how many points we'll be on after these games are completed.
At last, someone who knows what he's talking about!

The last two games were what I needed to see. After the Fleetwood disaster, I wanted to see us mix it with one of the top teams, and delivered twice running as far as I'm concerned. There's no doubts now that our current standards are good enough. Almost every season we hit this stage and we're looking st the side and hoping for some miracle emergency loan, or some players to hit form, dreading a hit to a thin squad, repeating shit phrases like "if we can just go on a run". We aren't in that position this time. We have everyone we need, the players, the squad depth, the momentum. We know we can do it. It's time to sit back and find out if they will.

You make some great points Poker I agree with the point you make about the squad in seasons gone by we just haven't had that luxury of having quality to choose from.

Only positions I worry about are the wing backs. Even then, I think we have so much across the pitch that we'd get by. Most of our cover is as good as if not better than what most teams can put out first choice. I don't think I've ever said that before about a Blades team.

I worry that we as fans just aren't worrying enough.
we need countless threads about worrying. If we had these threads then we wouldn't have to worry.

Just Wright. I'm confident we could cope with losing anyone else. I think if we lost Wright we'd still win enough to go up but it will be a lot tighter.

I will put my hand up on this one . After the first couple of games I thought we were relegation fodder .

Me too - I went bonkers after the 5th game away v Millwall, which followed closely from the Southend game at home - and we were relegation fodder, so you have nothing to hold your hands up to.

The signings, plus the change of formation plus the complete rebuild of the back 4 (including Long) solved the problem. Credit where it is due to CW & AK - I believe from memory CW had an agonising week up to the Oxford game at home. Even then we were 0-1 down at HT but after personel and positional changes turned it round. We went to 3-5-2 v Gillingham on the TV away and never looked back.

Same question to you: you've seen enough of football and the Blades in your time - when did you think it was "on"?

Fulwood , agree with you . Credit to both Wilder and Knill for seeing the problem and resolving it .

When did I think it was on -------

The win at Gillingham and Southend , when we had the rub of the green, by sheer hard work , good tactics and a willingness to succeed .

Still not there yet , but what a season to date , and it can only get better .

We will finally get out of this league , up not down :):)

The players, fans and staff of Scunthorpe, Bolton, Fleetwood and any other team with an outside chance of promotion don't need any more games to know that there's only ONE automatic place left.

Given Bolton's reaction I think you could be right.

February would make us shiver
But every game we did deliver
No bad news on the doorstep
They couldn't have run one more step
I can remember how I cried
When Billy kissed his badge with pride
Something touched me deep inside
The day, negativity died
SOOOOO...

Don't bloomin start it up all over again! :(;):)

I know I'm saying words I could live to regret, but Wirght's played 18 of our 33 (I think) so far. For some of that time he was kept out by EEL who was immense. Wirght's been phenomenal, and he's my first choice out of all our centre backs, but is there a team I'd be worried about if EEL started instead? Not really. EEL would be starting for almost any other club at this level and it wouldn't be close Imo.

I think we miss Wright's organisation when he's out. I wouldn't want to face Millwall without him. Or Oxford or Bradford. Not too worried about the rest.
