Brilliant photos there from the semi-final games HBT, cheers. I could have done with them when I did my cup special handbook, did a bit of feature on the '61 semi-final games. My mates dad went to the Elland Road and City Ground games (he bunked off school for the one in Nottingham), he reckoned you could see the mitre mud mark on Pace's shirt, right on his chest, after the disallowed goal. I always wondered why the first replay was a midweek afternoon kick off, now I know, no flood lights!!! The semi-final could quite possibly have been against Barnsley if they'd beaten Leicester in the replay at Oakwell, do you remember if there was any suggestion where the game would have been played if it had been against the Dingles? Would they have played it at Hillsborough (not as much rust in those I guess) do you recall?

The mud mark on Pace's shirt was a story that did the rounds, and I think it came from the man himself. My only doubt about that is that it was dry weather, and I don't think there was wet mud on the pitch. Incidentally, the first picture of post 52 is the disallowed goal at Elland Road, and should not have gone in with first replay material. It does not solve the mystery of whether Pace handled - the VAR Referee would not have overturned the original decision on that evidence!
I had forgotten that United almost played Barnsley in that semi-final. I doubt whether it would have been at Hillsborough, as they tended not to allow clubs to play in their home city, except in the case of London clubs playing each other, and replays. Elland Road or Manchester would have been more likely; the other semi (Spurs v Burnley) was at Villa Park.

It turns out after a trawl through my chaotic programme collection that I do have the programmes for the 2 replays, and I attach pictures below. One or 2 random bits of information from the Forest programme: it was the first semi-final in Nottingham since 1925, and the last team to win the Cup and gain promotion in the same year was WBA in 1931. And the St Andrew's programme ( virtually no content for the 3 pence cost) reminded me that Graham Shaw missed a penalty in the second replay, just 2 days after missing one in the league match at Leeds.
