With Boro out gunning us for Lita, Newcastle have also gazumped us by securing Khizanishvili on loan from Blackburn despite us apparently having reached agreement to sign him.

"'We had an agreement with Zurab Khizanishvili, his agent and Blackburn Rovers to bring him in on loan and then at midnight we heard that he had signed for Newcastle,' Blackwell told the club's official website"

As KB said a few weeks ago, we are all looking at the same players and unfortunately, the draw of the North East seems to be too much for us so far. Maybe a bit over the top but it could make the difference between going up and not at the end of the day.

Or it could be the fact that Newcastle are considerably better than us, Boro (despite being a smaller club) have been more successful than us in recent times, and good footballers will only sign for us as a last resort as we have a poor reputation throughout the game.

West Ham fiasco left us looking like whiny boys, we play turgid spoiling football who are seen as a big boot bunch of no-hopers, and we have a clueless manager who bottles it every time a big game is on the horizon.

Not the biggest draw for any aspiring footballer now are we

Or alternatively they've got parachute payment money and can afford more than us. If we could pay big bucks, we get good players too regardless of the current manager. Still If rational thought gets in the way of your agenda then don't let me stop you.

Oh dear, did I touch a nerve :eek::eek: I am so so sorry

Didn't see a whole host of top liners queuing up at the Lane when we had parachute money, where did that go by the way??? And your teeny dig re "rational thought"??? Are you saying that Newcastle aren't better than us and that 'boro haven't had more success? Looks a pretty balanced argument to me matey

I think you're probably right that they are as good a proposition as us at the moment. Several factors will influence decisions, Highbury's bang on when he says money will be the most influential by far. They can go that extra zero...

Money is indeed important but let's be honest, almost every time it becomes a two horse race to sign a player we're found wanting. Maybe just maybe, one day we'll say to hell with it, if we sign this player or that player it'll give us that spark but no, we always seem to take the frugal route and end up as we did last season, so near yet so far away

Is money really an excuse there was money for Smith and the other names we have supposedly been after.

Apart from BT

They are a bigger draw than us, can pay more wages and arguably a better chance of success, simple as.

that's a very complicated way of saying Boro and Newcastle pay higher wages that us. From 1 to 100, that's all that matters to them. The rest is just noise.

How did we manage to attract Ched then - despite the apparent interest of the NE clubs - and some premiership clubs too?

perhaps at that time, for him, we were prepared to pay the highest. All clubs will have a valuation for how much any player is worth and how far up their pay scale they're prepared to go.

Just because we've refused to pay, say £20K per week, doesn't mean we wont pay £20K per week for another player.

We attracted Ched because he was actually over priced and over rated. Think once the real football brains saw what City were asking for such a limited footballer they politely walked away

Haha, you're probably right but I think when Blackwell made up his wanted list, Ched was top of it and he's the one McCabe allowed the extra wages to persuade him.

To be fair when BT signed (and Hendrie and Naysmith and Sharp) we did spend the money and we had a manager who could attract the "names". Sadly he couldn't manage them and it all went tits.

I reckon all those players would have signed for a monkey, given the contracts we offered them. Of course thay all did the "always wanted to play for Robbo, mebbes" card afterwards.

Would Beattie, Speed, Eghiougu, Cahill not count as being as big or bigger than Lita and Ksssvvssillli?
