Webber appearances and goals in last 5 seasons:

2010–11 8 games, no goals
2009–10 17 games 1 goal
2008–09 36 games, 4 goals
2007–08 14 games, 3 goals
2006–07 22 games, 3 goals

I loved me some Danny Webber, back in 2006. Not now, though. As with Marcus Bent, anyone who thinks this is a good deal has clearly not factored in the passage of time.

We have enough forwards who have crappy recent records like that...

Quality doesnt always just disappear but I understand those concerns.

Personally feel he would take the piss out of league two defenders though.

God NO not Webber, thought he was great for his first season then his one trick was quickly found out and he was completly ineffective. Got some pace atleast and we are in a crap division but please NOOOOO.

How anyone can say they'd rather have Webber than Beatie is beyond me. People say Beaties got no pace but just his footballing brain will get hiom in the right place at the right time and make him look quick, he would absolutly destroy this league

Ah, but because he's played so few games recently everyone would have forgot about his one trick, allowing to him to bamboozle opposing defenders once again.*

*For the first five minutes of his first match.

Both would be nice.

Beattie would give us that nous in the box, Webber the movement we lack.

I would be delighted to have them as our front two in this division!

Wheres the like button? Webber on his own no thanks but Webber and Beattie together could be a poor mans Deane and Agana all over again in this league

What is it about United's obsession with never been's??

Geez. What is it about United fans and their obsession with average players, over the hill players and never been's??

Did we not learn from bringing in Marcus bent last year. Webber was decent in 2006, but has done bugger all since. At a time when we should be looking for youth, athleticism, pace and hunger we look set to dish out another lucrative end of career contract to a player that is well into their twilight. I despair.

got to be better than what we got now though ollie.

You say we should be looking for youth, athleticism, pace and hunger. BUT WHERE? there wont be any of that available to us on free transfer and more than likely the same in the loan market.
We need someone now. Webber and Beattie should be offered a low wage contract but with addons eg win bonus and appearances

wot u got his picture still up for then?!!!!!!!!!!!

As I thought he was good the last time he was here.

Although the arguments for not signing him make sense.

You evidently have, Olle, after trying to convince me that was a good deal...

Was my answer on the Rotherham thread right by the way?

Sentiment for former players has no bearing on my opinion.

I simply see Beattie and Webber as a massive improvement on what we have.

They both have attributes that we are sadly lacking at this moment in time.

Like Stanny said above, we need someone now! Dont see anyone better available for free.

That's my line! I was despairing before you were born, young man! :shakehead:

Seriously, I like all that I hear about Shaun Miller.

Webber = Wigan and that dreadful miss.

Old one trick back at the Lane? Jeez!

I don't want him back either, mate. Bit harsh though, the width of a post...

I reflect more on Jag's inexcusable [and so far as I'm aware, still unexplained?] penalty concession and Warnock's team selection and tactics.

I must admit the name i was given was Beattie.

If what i had been told, that he had earned his money and was set up for life, and just wanted to carry on playing for enjoyment, and was unwilling to sign up until he was match fit.

I happy and contented James Beattie enjoying a Indian Summer would be much more preferable for an overweight, overpaid Marcus Bent screwing the last few pence out of the end of his career.

im not happy at bringing in end of career players, having said that we have one of those already and to be honest probably best of the three we have.
beattie and webber might just be whats needed and should score for fun in this league, saying that i thought ched would too so....
BUT either BT or webber have got to be better than porter.
and i agree with brownie, if beattie just wants to play for enjoyment then if hes happy to play for us at low wages then im certain he would play under no pressure and would score a hatful.
webber im not so sure about but would be happy to give him a chance on a pay as you play.

Did you write that with a straight face? :)

Let's hope things have changed ever so slightly from the days when we paid him £40K per week and it still wasn't enough.

£37,500 plus some perks including his own private box. I bet he pays tax at an extortionate rate, though!
:)

Speaking of not wanting old players past their prime, in recent years we've had McCall, Speed, Cowans, Deane and they all did a good job despite being at the end of their playing careers, why not say the same about BT?

whispers of Simeon Jackson on BM

That would be an excellent signing.

Proven at lower league level and has scored goals in the Championship.

He has the kind of skills we are looking for. Liked the look of him when he was at Gillingham.

Would be semi happy with that, back end of last season for Norwich he was excellent but I watched him in a Norwich reserve game against Manure last week and he was shit! Maybe just needs some game time though?

If it is beattie i think it will make a massive difference to the mood in the dressing room and completely ruin the pigs game plan.

Just seeing Beattie on the game sheet would have opposition managers marking him with two men leaving space for others to do the damage.

Just seeing BT at the Lane would be enough for all the burger vans in South Yorks to come flocking ......
