New Signings - Who's Making Way Then?

So not only have we decided we're going to change shape and formation but we're writing off Coutts? Who EVERYTHING goes through.
Freeman who was our second top goal scorer?
And Duffy who for 60 mins a game has also been pretty influential?

Wow.

Whisper it, but some of them don't like good football. They are much more comfortable with nowt-fancy upanatem. It just feels right.

I suspect most fans will not be overly concerned about what style of football we play next season or who plays it as long as it's winning football.
We'll have to keep our heads down and our fingers crossed till the team gets settled in and we can see where we're heading.

To be honest, personally, I don't really fear next season it's the one after that I worry about, The one were everybody relaxers and think's we've arrived, that's the one that can get ya...

Oh dear. I really have been wasting my time all these years...and I'm told these sort of outdated and discredited views don't exist and I make them up.

One last time: Proper pass and move football is the way to win. It's cause and effect, not coincidence. History shows conclusively that the best footballing teams win the leagues and trophies. Proper football is winning football. Ragamuffin shadow-chasing is strictly for the Sunday League and the remote wastelands of S2.

If the season of sublime football we've just seen generating 100 points doesn't prove the point, then there's nothing more I can do but despair.

Why was he so keen to make the loan permanent in January then? He could have just extended the loan if he thought Lafferty was a "weak link".

Because he was more than capable of helping us get out of the league and discounting Hussey we have no other LBs so sign Lafferty on a permanent who is OK then sign competition in Stevens who will inevitably take over the starting LB role with Lafferty providing Competiton/Cover.

You could ask why we signed Hanson? He did a job, did it well enough to help us out of the league but do you think he will play a role larger than just competition or cover this season?

Fair point, and I do think Stevens is a great signing and may well be first choice, but I'm just saying Wilder seems to rate Lafferty and people here who have been a bit hard on Lafferty in my view.

Yeah because Sharp, Fleck, Hanson, Duffy and Any combination of our back 3 are blessed with fantastic pace...

Lavery aside we don't posses anyone with the pace we'll need to make it to top half of the Championship.

Jees some people are so blinkered it makes me wonder if watching too much League One football has made them think in League One terms. It's as if getting out of League One was the height of our ambition and next year will be a testimonial year with us all back slapping each other and skipping to the Lane.

Thank god Tufty doesn't think like that and is already well on his way to upgrading the team in every area.
so your very unhappy with the squad , they are all lacking pace and cant get pastr defenders or create chances

How ever did we score over 100 goals

its a mystery

It's missing a vertebrae up front if that's the spine.

I think Moore will lose his place to a new keeper.

Still think Wilder has something up his sleeve re: CF. However, I appreciate I'm in the minority, but I'm intrigued/excited to see how Lavery comes through after a full pre season. Can see him and Evans causing havoc next season if he gets it right...

Think you are being a bit harsh on the rest who walked away with 1st division.
Let's see who steps up to the plate we have some very good players who will cut it in championship

I'm sure there will be more. Just saying that Fleck and JOC 100% convince me that they are comfortably championship standard. I expect others will step up successfully. Basham, Sharp and Moore and probably Freeman all have a very good chance. Wouldn't rule out the likes of Coutts and Wright from successfully stepping up either. But Fleck and JOC are nailed on to be good players in the championship for me.

Anyone?

Last time I saw Ched he looked pretty hot over 20-30 yards.
Ditto Freeman.
Lafferty is no slouch.
I believe Thomas and Stevens can also move a bit.

But apart from that, what did the Romans ever do for us?

Wilder has brought three in already and we can probably expect another three. I don't think he's done this to play them in the U23's or make up the numbers in training. The OP suggested that 3 or 4 of them would be starting next season so who was going to give way? Simple poser to discuss really.

So guess who comes along with the usual smart-arsed snipe instead of contributing to the debate.

So come on, join in and make a constructive comment. If you think the line-up will remain unchanged, fine, that's another option but then why is Wilder shipping in a load of new signings?

I think we should improve the team progressively and seamlessly by adding excellent footballers to those we already have. I don't want any DMs or AWMs or players who 'sit' or 'hold' or 'deep lie' or other such armchair manager nonsense. These appellations do Tufty's head in and I don't want our manager's head done in.

I fundamentally disagree with the notion that we should alter the style of football that we saw last season. I believe suggestions that we should do so are ill-informed twaddle. I wonder at the motivation behind such suggestions. I ask myself why anyone would actively desire poorer football. I remind myself we are in S2. It all becomes clear.

Totally agree.

The only thing I'd add is that it depends what you've got to work with.

I don't think Dave Bassett would have been successful if he'd asked his Wimbledon team (or his Sheff Utd team) to stroke it around like Barcelona.

Wilder has broken the mould for me. He's got hugely motivated players from a lower level, stroking it around like Barcelona.

That is no mean achievement.

That's why I'm confident his teams will compete anywhere. Enjoy it because it's special!

Yes, I'm with you entirely. Of course I'll be blamed for you mentioning Dave Bassett now... :)

Tuftyball is indeed wonderful to behold. Long may we pass and move.
