Now the dust has settled and it has become clearer who's out of the running, of the remaining few, who is everyones choice - apart from Di Matteo I think everyone has there doubts on all the others.

I dont think Pembo should be moved from his current job but out of those above he's the best candidate IMO. The only other one I would give any consideration to is Robins but I have my reservations there as well. RDM is still by far the strongest candidate and Hughton (seemingly West Ham bound) would be my second choice. Its becoming clearer by the day that we wont get either!

I wouldn't mind us trying to bring in Tidsdale at Exeter to be honest. Sometimes managers from smaller can't quite handle the amount of backroom staff that such as United have though, which always makes it a risk but I think he's shown he has the makings of a really good manager, doing well at Bath and stepping up into the Football League well with Exeter. Maybe the next step of his career could be us...

If its going to be a relative unknown from the lower leagues, I would rather have Keith Hill than anyone else.

Who knows?! None of us really know anything.....the club is being so tight-lipped on this. I bet there are a couple of candidates that haven't even been mentioned!

I agree there, there is absolutely nothing coming out of the club, both officially and unofficially! They have to be praised on that really as it's been a long while since things like this were kept properly quiet.

Anyone reckon there's a chance we're waiting to see how Huddersfield do in the play-offs before considering Clark?

I can't see him realistically coming to us but he'd be my first choice.

Either that or The Star have pretty much revealed everything there is to know. It seems like quite a categorical statement from James Shield. Not "we believe" or "a source has indicated":-

"United have started interviewing candidates. Decision to be made after Youth Cup Final. Danny Wilson, Roberto Di Matteo, Chris Hughton, Russell Slade, Chris Wilder and Peter Reid are the main contenders for the United job"

If it is true, I would love to know how United arrived at this list of candidates. Why Slade and Wilder ahead of Hill and Tisdale? Just because they have links with United? Just because they applied for the job? Ex-Wednesday Wilson? Blackwell's mate Reid. Did we try and contact any managers who didn't contact us? Who is leading the search? Who decided on the shortlist?

In a moment of madness McCabe publically mentioned Di Matteo. If he'd never mentioned him fans would probably be more welcoming to the likes of Robins and Slade. More accepting of a Hill or Tisdale. Now "RDM" seems to be the one who most fans want and anybody else will be seen as a cheaper, lesser appointment.

In McCabe's defence, certain members will love this, He only said that RDM had text him. He didn't say why, what about, whether he was in the running. You can speculate, you can put 2 and 2 together and get 5. But he never said he'd e speaking to him about the managers job.

People read too much into things

I voted Pembo out of the list simply because hes the only one i could see making it work. The way i see it is if were gunna be fielding quite a few youngster next yr who better to be coaching them then the guy whos just spent the last few months moulding them into what theyve become. Yes if it fails we,l have technicaly lost 2 managers but if it pays off we,l be laughing.

Better to ask whether you trust McCabre to choose a decent manager, because I don't!

When you think about it and look at all the speculation (if it is to be believed) it actually all points to Pembo getting the job. Think about it.....

-RDM is considered a strong candidate early on - United reportedly cant afford him
-Robins and Wilson then emerge as front runners - both out of work and could be appointed immediately.
-All the while Pembo is still under consideration (and is a fairly popular choice).
-The local media indicate that an appointment is unlikely to be made until after the YCF 2nd leg!

I may be putting 2 + 2 together to make 5. I realise that and it is all speculation, but if there is any truth in any of it surely there is no reason why Robins or Wilson wouldnt have been appointed by now?! You would hope that United have interviewed most of the candidates by now. Why wait til after the game at Old Trafford???? See what I'm getting at? ;)

Completely agree

...or of course McCabe could be simply doing the honourable thing and allowing Pemberton and the Academy team their moment in the spotlight, before dashing it away from them and onto the new manager! :)

Damn! I voted Reid cos I thought I'd be the only one but I see that two other clowns have got in before me.... :(

I voted Robins - Wouldn't complain at him, Wilson or Reid though. We're a lower league club and should set our expectations as such. We tend not to have much joy with rookie managers and the aforementioned three all have decent experience. I would be gutted if Pemberton, Wilder, Slade or any other unknown got the job as I definitely think we need somebody who has enough experience and some contacts in the game. I still don't know who Hill is other than what's been said on Radio Sheff as he's been strongly linked with Barnsley. Who is this Tisdale people keep mentioning? I've asked this on another thread but got completely ignored, which is nothing new.

Paul Tidsdale is currently manager at Exeter. Took over when they were in the conference and this season they just missed the play-offs in division 1. Formally manager at Bath where I believe he also gained promotion. Reputation as a forward thinking new-breed manager; sports science utliser etc.

Tisdale is at Exeter who finished just below the playoffs. Apparently good football and obviously on shoe string budget
