As I understand the new loan window is now open. What do we expect? A signing before the next game? Do we want someone like Halmosi who appears to be sticking out for a high wage. Not something we are liable to do in the present climate. Has anybody got any information to share?

I expect Speed to bring in a winger and a pacey striker. We are 3 players (winger, creative/attacking CM and quick striker) away from being semi decent/ok.

The rumours look like Speed is trying to bring in a winger (Halmosi) and striker (young guy from Everton). I'd say that the winger is the priority, as it free's up Ward who can play up front and add some threat (not to mention speed) to our front line.

This still leaves the problem of who will play with Britton in CM. Britton is a deep playing midfielder and playing Monty and Ertl with him just doesn't make sense. Perhaps Speed thinks that Quinn could do a job, or is waiting for Willo. Low and behold if he thinks that Monty (or Ertl) can be the attacking/creative partner of Britton in centre mid.

I'd like to see us bring in 3, but think we'll have to settle for 2. Speed will try to bring someone in before Derby I'm sure, but it may not be that easy. You would hope that we would have used the international break to sort out a deal, but this is SUFC. That said, with Tricky Trev standing behind cheap as chips (mark II) then perhaps there is hope.

Totally agree. Which is why I would be targeting a left sided player and a central midfielder. I dont have a real problem with our strikers. I think they're all decent players and with the right service will get enough goals between them........

Halmosi is ok, but I would like to see someone with perhaps more of a tendency to go outside the full back and look for a cross. There isnt a lot around for the sort of wages we would want to pay but perhaps someone like Michael McIndoe (dare I say it) who we went in for once before pulling the plug on it. I think someone like that would have more Championship experience as well. Halmosi hasnt played a lot of football recently.

Then for a central midfielder we need someone who can run with the ball in the final third but plays box to box, allowing Britton to sit in the middle. Michael Brown would be ideal for this but I cant imagine we could pay him what Pompey are currently. I would settle for this though:-

Yeates.....Brown.....Britton.....McIndoe
(the one problem with this is Monty's automatic selection)

Which would also free up Ward to play alongside Cressy or Evans. A man can dream

you are onto something here SC. We should remember that Henderson is back at some point before xmas too. I've been a big crtitique of Henderson and think he has been disappointing at SUFC. However, how much of that is down to KB? The reason I didnb't like Hendo being in the squad is because we just lumped it up to him. If we play differently under GS, then perhaps he could be an asset. Regardless we have 4 strikers who are fit and hence I completely agree that we should look for 2 midfielders.

we've needed an attacking CM since lord brown left.. i'm not sure about hendo.. i'd like to see him play in a passing outfit before i pass judgement.. he may be as sick as anyone about the hoofball antics (hence the general demeanour of the guy)

Your being a little to positive for me today.

I think someone has been borrowing your login Olle old pal. On another thread someone passing themselves off as you made the following statements about our squad:-

“What a talentless bunch we have. Any 'clapper' who denies that Kevin Blackwell didn't do a holocaust on talent at BDTBL should see this thread.
In a slow, uncreative and blunt squad Ward sticks out like a sore thumb.
Somebody at work said to me the other day 'you must have some decent players' and I was stumped
The mass lack of quality had lead to us finding it difficult to pick a favourite player
Blackwell has tore the heart out of SUFC, selling the best players, bringing in trash, thinning the squad”

Like you, I think we are maybe 2 to 3 players short now. Hopefully Speed will be allowed to bring them in. I'm not sure what that other bloke pretending to be you was going on about.

what are you trying to prove my this message Sothall? That I am being contradictory? Not at all.

Our squad is thin and lacking in creatvity, flair and pace. However, despite this we are not the worst team in the league. We have several decent players. In fact we have a pretty average bunch of players. Pretty talentless, but they'll work hard and be fairly solid. The division is pretty damn poor and hence a couple of signings would make us competitive. That would make us semi decent/ok. Not good, just ok.

Players like Morgs, Ertl, Cresswell, Evans, Yeates, Quinn and Bogdanovic are not bad. Talentless maybe a little harsh, but they are decent enough. These players are slid, but will never pull up trees. However, these types of players will compliment very good one's. If Ward, Britton, AN other and AN otherr start playing well, scoring goals, creating things, opening space, being dangerous then the team will do much better.

Hence only a couple of decent signings could turn a fairly average (maybe poor) team into a potentially good one.

The problem is the 93 day rule which comes into play and managers generally want players in to cover the Xmas period. As we have games on 26th and 28th Dec, you'd imagine we would want 93 days back from there which makes it 27th September. This could be earlier in Halmosi's case as we play Hull on 26th so there may be a 'no-play' clause in which case we may take 93 days back from the game before giving us another 10 days at this end.

We're all agreed that we're short of creativity and pace and need a couple of signings.
You now appear to accept our entire squad isn't "talentless trash" and you're no longer "stumped when trying to name one decent player". Fine, well done.
You keep saying that you're at the head of some weird "sunshine band" fighting an imaginary war against the "clappers".
(All that stuff wasn't particularly funny the first time you read it, never mind the 1000th time)
I can't see the point in posting massive exaggerations that you don't really believe, just to try and pretend you're leading some sort of non-existent cult.

Well said Sothall Blade, but it's worse than that. With his sunshine band application form, Ollie was trying desperately to prove he has a sense of humour, having been accused only the day before of taking himself a bit seriously (it didn't prove it to me, he comes across like Darren used to when he tried to be funny).

Now, he's resorted to using heavy sarcasm in his posts and that's an ill-advised strategy in my view, but each to his own

He's not in the same league as len, who's a Premiership doommongerer, but who makes decent points consistently and has always taken the brickbats in good part. Ollie's all over the shop, Blue Square Premier League at best, and thin-skinned with it.

Ok, I agree in part until we get to the BLACKWELL has torn the heart out. He hasn't helped maybe but as someone earlier alluded to, pay peanuts get monkeys. Why do we seem to lose out on any quality? Its generally when we get them to the table and see we won't pay anything in wages etc.

In short, don't blame the Manager blame the chairman and the execs who are more interested in global market share and other revenue streams (to use corporate bullshit for being tight) rather than investing in players at SUFC.

Its crap to blame someone who is working with both his hands tied behind his back. Reason we got speed is because he was a cheap option. No big pay off for another manager from another club, no worries about putting any more on the overhead, just promote from within and we will have another yes man who will do what Kevaneezer wants him to.

But we don't pay 'peanuts to get monkeys'. We pay Monty alot of money relative to vast majority of midfielders in the section and he is utterly useless, a total laughing stock. We pay vast sums to Evans, Cresswell, Henderson and no doubt Boggy is on a nice earner (albeit subsidised by Maltese tourist board I imagine). We get nothing for the outlay on these strikers - McCabe must feel sick when he sees the wage bill and what he gets for it. Willo is a crock but will be on good money, Nozza, Simmo, Britton, all on decent money for second toer players no doubt. Our wage bill was massive throughput Blackwell's tenure and he has left us with a shocking squad lacking in all areas other than ineptitude. There is no excuse for Blackwell and the football we had to endure.

I think Cresswell and Henderson both proved themselves last season, Cressy isnt doing anything this season because hes slow and hes stuck out on the wing, give him a run in the middle and he'll start banging them in again. No matter what people think about Hendo and the style we play when hes playing he still put the ball in the back of the net consistantly which is what strikers are supposed to do so to say we get nothing from the outlay on these strikers is abit harsh really.

your first 3 statements are simply innacurate. Your entitled to your opinion (that my posts are not funny) and all I will say is why read them? Then why get wound up about them?

I half agree with you here. I think most of our strikers do give us good value. Cresswell certainly has a good goal scoring record for us and Henderson's is respectable whilst not being spectacular. Having said that I think Hendo is the type of forward that is meant to play alongside a goal scorer.....not necessarily a 20 goal a season man himself.

The only striker that we havent really had full value for so far is Chedwyn....who I do think will come good in time and once we have a settled way of playing. His scoring record so far is undoubtedly poor but he is young and will improve with experience. The problem is his price tag and he's constantly measured on it.

I'm led to believe he is our highest earner as well....from what I consider to be a reliable source. If that is the case then he really does need to start finding the onion bag!

Speed says he's made no loan inquiries whatsoever according to the Sheff Telegraph.
Mebbes we need to slip back to the bottom to force some action.

If the quote is correct its very worrying. I am getting a bit paranoid now I have to say. Other teams seem to be recruiting ok. Is Speedo really satisfied with his squad...that would be worrying too. Smith has gone to QPR ...Danny Rose to Bristol City..Vaughn to Palace...Lawrence to Portsmouth. All these have been mentioned for us (not necessarily by the club) but we have to start and wonder whats left. Halmosi? cant get a game anywhere else....does that apply to the others mentioned above?
If Speedo has really not made any enquiries he's not the manager I had hoped he would be. There can only be one explanation...he's waiting for the date to pass so loanees can be used over Xmas. A risky strategy

The same story in the Telegraph mentions Vaughn is on the list...well, at least that is one Gary can strike off! Of course, it is possible he is mentioning names to keep other clubs out of the race for his real targets?

Perhaps it's for the best Len. Now we know there are no players out there better than what we already have we can all get behind them and the inevitable climb up the table our quality will bring.

To be honest, most people have given up caring.
The gate on Tuesday could be very interesting.

I thought after the Naughton and Walker deals,we had first pick of Spurs youngsters.Well Danny Rose as joined Bristol City on a season long deal.Surely he would fit in with what Speed is trying to do.Seem to remember him scoring a cracker last season and also looking very accomplished in midfield for a youngster.
