Hi Blades fans!

Recently Carl Asaba sat down with his old gaffer, Neil Warnock, and recorded a podcast!

Part one is available now. Please check it out via the link below and send us your feedback! This is still in the pilot stage so everything we get back from you is appreciated.

BTW -- you won't want to miss part two next week!

Just listened and thoroughly enjoyed it, can't wait for part two.

Only minor point is the advert for the Ollie Norwood pod right in the middle...could this not be at the end? it felt like an unnecessary interruption.

Hi Nik,

Apologies -- maybe we could've made it clearer. The bit with Norwood is just a 'drop-in' to break it up. In every episode we do a 'get to know' segment and this week it was with Oli.

Sorry for the confusion and hope it wasn't too distracting.

Will pop it on tomorrow while I'm working 👍🏼

I think Warnock was a good manager but he puts a fair bit of spin on things. Makes out he never had money but QPR at the time were one of the richest clubs in the country. He also squandered alot of the money he was given in the premier League.

Tbf I do wish he wasn't sacked and there has been many occasions since I would have killed to have him instead of some of the shite we have had.

Does Neil embellish his departure story? (stories) . Watched one where he discussed his promotion contract and how mean it was - top four finish for a bonus - which presumably he signed anyway when put in front of him. It’s not surprising he gave up after Villa away when he realised he wasn’t going to cash in. More to be made bitching to the press.

We'll He was never going to hit that clause was he.
It was obviously his dream to manage in the premier league, particularly with united so he was never going to pack it in.
McCabe probably realised this and played his usual tight fisted hand.

Either that or NW is embellishing the story as he is won’t to do. Top four finish :)

I’d guess the contract was not what he expected (nor not what he deserved at that point). Did he ever make that claim at the time? That contract would have been in lace prior to promotion iirc.

Tickets to sell. :)

going off the city hall. he says that went he was offered the Leicester job in January. Kevin McCabe offered him better terms & bonus, a premier league contract if i remember. if we got promotion

obviously we get to the end of the season, which he called the worst day of his working life which shouldve been his best. because he gets the "improved" contract that was no different. struggled through the player of the year awards & was ready to quit there & then. but stayed out of loyalty to the players

Portsmouth surely?

Mandaric has stated he was never actually offered the job.

McCabe understandably didn’t want to lose him at that point but after Mandaric told him he’d never actually been offered the job, things started to sour. Was any new or amended contract actually signed? NW made a big thing about not getting one so the story changes for his new career. That’s Neil for you.

your right it was Portsmouth. wrong team in the top 2. but he wouldve had to sign a contract to manage in 06/07 as his previous one it ran out at the end of 2005/06. but McCabe didnt deliver on his promises from what ive heard. the relationship was dead from there

As much as Warnock talks an exaggerated yarn. I’m 100% trusting him over anything McCabe says. If he’s saying McCabe tried to fuck him over, based on Our Kev’s weaselling, he obviously did.

If McCabe bought his kid their first house, he’d probably charge them a higher rate than the Bank of England. “Fuck gifting son, there’s no better dad than me, Seth”.

There was an option for a third year.

At the time it was reported the contract offered was £750k pa in the PL but only £450k pa if relegated. Seems that rather than trying to fuck him underhandedly, he just wanted to fuck him off.

Superbly produced, whoever was behind that did a sterling job, flows very nicely.
