Get thi sen some Lee jeans, a pair of Adidas Sambas and a BELT.

He had a belt on Kozzy, with a massive sparkly buckle, it just didn't seem to be there to hold his jeans up!

I felt like saying "nar then chuff, get thi sen some George-from-Asda and ave dun we it!"

I remember bumping into Yeates in a petrol station, he was nice enough and my wife said hello to him. Then I noticed that apart from only being 5ft 2" tall, he was wearing those low slung jeans, where the waistband is almost around your knees, showing off your boxer shorts, and they were covered in silvery, sparkly bits.

I felt like saying to him, "nay lad, nay, tha dunt wear that soort o clobber if that a Blade, get thisen oooem and get some proper clooors on, or thall feel back o mi and! "

No SEB, it's all my own work, but I will take that as a compliment as his book (and film) Kes, was similar to my own upbringing (Sheffield, not Barnsley of course)

Price of Coal is better. Met Barry and his brother (who lectured at Hallam) on several occasions. Great blokes both of them.

Price of coal was excellent, and I had forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder. Saw it on TV, "Play for Today", in the good old days when TV was worth watching

Well personally he is I'm only in my early 20's so I'm yet to see a better one. Even in 2003 and 2005/06 we weren't as good defensively as Naughton - Morgan - Killa - Naysmith

Two parts directed by Ken Loach, starring our very own Bobby Knutt. Think it's available on DVD, part of a Ken Loach at the BBC boxset.

Bobby Knutt yes, and wasn't another local comedian in it? club comedian? need to think about it, big lad from memory

Apologies for harping back to the teams from the far past, but Barry Hartle didn't just run like a chicken (true), he tackled like one too.. Ronnie Simpson didn't win many medals for bravery either but by god he could hammer the ball goal-wards though.

Remember Hartle running into that wall at Lincoln in the cup, can hear it now.

I went to that match too. After the match a temporary bridge collapsed into a dredged canal and a pal of mine had to go to hospital. Our coach and it's passengers were delayed getting home until he was discharged a couple of hours later.

My dad said the same as you said about Simpson

Woody is a big hero of mine but he wasnt brave when it comes to challenges too

I always remember that Warnock documentary where he had the players running into the cold sea. I never looked at Tonge in the same way again after seeing his scrawny pasty body mincing through the waves. Ever since that he's always come across as the most nest footballer I've ever seen play.

Steve Neville takes the award for biggest mincer ever to play for us IMO

Would literally duck rather than head a ball than risk ruining his nice new sparkly perm

Good thread. Quite a few names I can think of....

Goalkeepers - Tomlinson, Benstead good calls, but Simonsen was pathetic. A big bloke who hated contact and seemed to get smaller when he went into challenges.

Defence - Most defenders should like tackling but we have had a few who seemed to avoid contact. Andy Taylor stands out of recent times as does Westlake. I also thought Collins was nesh for a big lad.
Also a great player but Vas Borbokis hated tackling and would move out of 50/50's. The French lad Calve seemed to think he did not have to touch another player.

Midfield - Jonathan Hunt, Cotterill, Frain and Carney as others have alluded to were pathetically weak/nesh. Ryan Flynn was one who seemed to like to try and tactically avoid a tackle. Willie Falconer hated contact too and James Harper was another in recent years who did his best to try and not get dirty. Jamie Hoyland was another sadly that preferred not to get stuck in I felt. As much as I loved him, Colin Morris was a bit nesh too - he even admitted it to me once! Tonge was also another weakling for a central midfielder.

Strikers - Philliskirk definitely, Bogdanovic was a lightweight as was another couple of foreign strikers Ten Heuvel and Katchouro. Carl Asbaba also for a big ish bloke hated contact. Andy Gray another. Andy Scott was a bit of a wimp too.

Sure I have forgot some. We have had some real powder puff players over the years.

Morris - great winger but didn't like a tackle. Apparently after getting his leg broken before he joined us.

Amazed no one has mentioned John Gannon yet!

We often have threads about hard men and discussions about the 'hardest' (usually Billy Tightshirt) but what about the other side of the coin players who 'nesh' or 'bottle' it, players who never got their knees dirty?

I'll start with a few

1) Tomlinson
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
7) David Carney
8)
9) Tony Philliskirk
10)
11)David Frain

Bit harsh on Tommo. He sustained a broken leg in the line of duty

-----------------------Simmonsen

Westlake------Bartley-----Kilgallon----W. Quinn

Cotterill--------Ribeiro-----Harper-----Carney

-------------------Cofie---Bogdanovic
