Neil's not happy about yesterday's cancellation...

It is a bit iffy though. I live in the East Midlands and whilst it was thick in parts it didn’t alter my plans for Sunday and was able to get out and about.

He has a fair point. The picture Derby posted hides the car park that was free of snow, and shows a dollop of snow (presumably the dollop that was cleared from the car park)

The one the BBC shown was clear.

A Derby fan at work was telling me that he’d Skyped his mate last night in Derby and he’d gone to the ground to collect tickets for another game, tweeted the lack of snow at the stadium, then got stuck on the way home back to the Derby suburbs.

The cancellation DOES raise an interesting point though.

In the olden days before Heakth and Safety the only concern was “is the PITCH playable”.
However in recent years there’s been a consideration regards the area surrounding the ground
And whether fans will slip on pavements etc.

However for the Derby - Cardiff both the pitch and the area around the stadium were totally fine.

The decision seems to be based on a significant part of their fan base living in rural areas or side roads. Many fans will have faced a lot of hassle and inconvenience getting the cars off their drives.

It was a £20 ticket offer for the match with almost 30K tickets sold in advance.
The actual attendees would have been 25K max with many fans going through a lot of effort to get there.

Weather conditions where some of the fan base live is usually never considered, the focus is always on the state of the area in and around the stadium.

So why the change?

It’s the extreme language Neil uses that makes him almost a parody of his former self.

“It’s a disgrace” being one of those often applied to things others might class as irksome. Having a game postponed due to snow when it has in fact snowed, being one of them. Certainly Derby will be happy with so many players out.

Then there’s the usual response when one of his team gets cautioned for a poor challenge. “What about when their lad...”

Entertaining though, if not a little predictable!

Apparently there was no consultation with the police or safety people at the council.
Seems that Derby County FC made the decision themselves, which seems hard to believe.

Anyhow the FL have now asked both Derby and Cardiff for a written explanatiiom if the events that occurred that day.

When Middkrsboro failed to play their fixture due to illness the other year they were docked 3 points.
If Derby County are found guilty of deliberately calling off the match due to their severe injury problems
Then would they also receive a points deduction?

There are a lot of disingenuous,obnoxious,ignorant,self-important cretins currently earning a living from professional football who are far worse than Neil Warnock.

I don’t recall seeing snow drifts up to my shoulder
But do you recall viewing the picture on Twitter in this article that clearly shows the snow on the roads surrounding the ground?

Sorry but, where have you got the information that "it is based on "a significant part of their fan base living in rural areas or side roads"? I've not seen any reference to that anywhere. Is that your summation or has it been stated somewhere?

I think you're right to say that in the olden days it was only the state of the pitch that mattered but nowadays Health & Safety rules mean that there is more consideration regarding the areas around the ground. That's a fact. But as for Derby County FC having lots of fans who live in rural locations and side-roads...oh boy! Do they have some who are trolls and live under bridges as well I wonder? I think this is a figment of your imagination mate.

Derbyshire is a rural county, we all know that, at least, for a major part anyhow. But I've never heard of a football match being postponed because of where people live - and I don't think you have either? The decision was made because of snow and ice on the roads and pavements approaching the stadium primarily, aided and abetted by a desire of Derby County FC to give themselves a bit more time to get more players fit.

I hope this all leads to Derby getting a points deduction! Now that would be nice!

I think Neil Warnock is a bit 'Jeckyll and Hyde'.
On the one occasion that I met him he seemed a very likeable bloke. When it comes to footy though he gets very emotionally involved (don't we all?) and comes across as a bad loser. You've got to admit though that he knows how to get promoted from this league.

He was on Talk Sport this morning...said he's calmed down and he'd have done the same as Derby.
