"Controversial", interesting.

See I thought it was perfectly reasonable to suggest focussing on the positive aspects of the here and now, rather than dwelling on what a pair of losers did two years ago.

And by the way, I've defended many managers and players to the hilt in the face of considerable "abuse" in the past I think you'll find. I also fully expect a few seasons of being lower mid-table too as part of a gradual progression. So there you have it.
Knowledge is power...

Useless footballer? His career stats and earnings don't back that up.

Shit human being???

Your shock jock routine does you no favours sometimes.

Reading some of these comments reminds me of those fans who name the likes of Gayle, Gannon and Hoyland in their worst 11 of all time :D

No attempted "shock" value here. It just looks that way to people who like to defend the banal.

And I don't give a flying fanny fart about anyones career stats or bank account, I care about what they bring to the club I support.

And as I've said about 72 times, I care even more about Wilder and the current team, not some crybaby with a persecution complex or some wanker with a famous surname.

Step into 2017, it's quite nice...

"Step into 2017, it's quite nice..."

And you fail to see the irony of you slavering and foaming about the past.

Planet Durden must be a strange place.

Oh hello. You've been quiet since I last put you in your place. February wasn't it?

Must've missed you and your "missus" in the Cricketers, shame really, I would've bought you a Britvic. Not like you to avoid pubs usually is it? Hope you're ok.

So effectively you're admitting you went OTT then. Fair enough.

For the record 'useless footballers' don't have careers like Collins, or take clubs like us to Wembley twice.

Whilst clearly Clough has an inherited ego, I'm not sure what evidence you have to qualify him as a 'shit human being'.

It's not living in the past to point these things out just because we're in a much better place now.

All a bit Pinchyesque to me

Westlake, Hammond, Woolford, O'Halloran, Sammon, Brandy, Williams, Payntor, McAllister, Ironside, Taylor ??

Sorry can't agree when Dean Hammond is brought into consideration

All of whom came and went in a short period of time. Collins somehow managed to stick around whilst never being anything more than a hinderance in the worst period of a generation.

True - for stickability he did very well to say he was so poor :)

I couldn't care less about his "career", Ian Rush and Jimmy Johnstone had much better careers yet did nothing at United (which is what matters). They were both infinitely better footballers too.

Yet despite what I think of him, the way he was treated by Brians son was disgusting. You don't freeze people out like that. Tell them that they're either in your plans or not so everybody can move on, rather than being an arsehole about it.
The mans utter arrogance was apparent every time he opened his mouth. The difference being that unlike his dad, he's done nothing in football management to warrant it.

Now, do you mind if I go back to enjoying our current position rather than retreading this crap every time Neill Collins spews out yet more memoirs? Like many people, I'm glad to see the back of both individuals.

I'd stick beesley and gannon in that side along with Leon Britton.

Collins had one attribute, he could head a ball. Other than that, awful.

Large Mendonca it's amazing how he managed to stay so long but as we never really replaced Maguire until Wilder came along then it's no wonder.

Clough tried to get rid and thankfully Adkins, somehow, in an awful season managed to finally shift him. Probably the one thing that Adkins succeeded in.

Interesting that since he went and Wilder came in team spirit and organisation has improved. Perhaps the club saw something

Hmm. Seeing as during my near 40 years watching us, Gannon and for a year or two Beesley, played in the best or highest placed United side during that time, I'll just smile wryly at that.

The like is for your comments on Collins. Don't agree on Beesley or Gannon.

Can I just say that I disagree with beesley for his first few years, because until the back pass rule came into play he was really quite good. Unfortunately after that and he had to kick a ball elsewhere you have a point

He kept Burton up , which you said he wouldn't, and then had to admit you were wrong to me. That's an achievement in itself I'd say.

He's not even in the top ten worst players we've had over the last few years. He scored some important goals too. His equaliser when we had 9 men at Scunny sticks out along with his very cool penalty in the play off final.

Agreed and he also wore the shirt with genuine pride, gave 100% and didn't shirk when others did. I saw him score at Brentford in Weir's first away league game and believe me he wasn't the worst United player on show that day; by a long way. As Weir, his coaches and players scuttled off to the changing rooms after the game, he was one of the few to have the balls to clap the remaining fans. There have been many worse players than him and far more less committed ones.

And a symptom of our struggle.

200 games and the slide continued.
Absolutely. Its unbelievable how he stuck around so long. But i think latterly it was due to the Owners not liking Clough and they probably thought that the Butler and Collins issues were all Clough, rather than actually looking at Collins and seeing that he was just really shite

Collins was poor..

But he was still better than Maceverly, Alcock and Mcgahey who Nigel 'the genius in his own head' Clough signed and selected throughout his disastrous second season in charge.

That picture of him with a weight attached to his back answers a lot of question, he always ran like he was towing a caravan, maybe they put stealth camouflage on it for the matches.

It's ok picking shit players with a handful of games between them. Collins and Doyle had 200 plus games each. That's years of shit experience and play
