All this negativity after one game!

Ok it was Port Vale and yeah we should of turned them over, but come on. Maybe it was a wake up call to Blackwell last night, maybe he has seen things that we have seen for ages, maybe certain players perform well in training but not when it matters.

Whatever it is though, we have lots of new players and it takes a while for these players to gel together, give them chance.

We got a very good point away at Middlesborough and now we have our first home game on Saturday.

Sod the cup, we wouldnt win it anyway, the league is something we can win!

So forget last night, move on, and lets (i hate to say it but) concentrate on the league.

Get behind the lads on Saturday, don't push negative vibes onto the pitch by booing a bad touch or rubbish pass, if anyone can help build confidence on the pitch its us as supporters.

First sensible post I've read all day.

It was the Carling Cup, who cares!!

Onwards and UPwards in the league!!!

To be fair, I'm not sure that the negativity is because we're out of the cup, it's more to do with the woeful performance from players who should be a lot better and the message such a poor performance gives off ahead at the start of such an important season.

Having said that, I think it's fair to say we don't really care that much about the Carling Cup so it's not a complete tragedy that we're out and we can at least concentrate on the league!

Must admit i'm kinda glad it happened, otherwise he would still not have seen the failings of Quinn, Howard et al

It's also the fact that it's nothing new that we've got massive shortcomings, and yet the manager either hasn't noticed this or hasn't been able to fix it over the summer.

Totally unrelated, but Matth, missing the old signature! Reminds me of buffoon baiting on here :(

First sensible post maybe but they were still very very poor for the majority of the game.

I see your point, but its not ONE game, its things that should've been addressed following our dratic failure at Wembley and things we thought were sorted after we lost at home to the pigs!

Is it negativity or is it the fact that we give a shite about the team improvements?

I understand that we're rebuilding the squad and we no longer have the strength in depth in the squad, but we expect, ney, demand that every player that pulls on the red and white (white and red;black) plays for the team and at least puts the effort in.

Of course its only the fizzy pop cup but if it doesn't matter then lets sign up 15 fans and let them go out and play for just ONE game.

but but but......

This is a line which i have drawn under it.

Now, lets move on!

But I don't get what Blackwell is meant to do, we know he has tried to sign players who have ended up signing for someone else or not wanting to move to us.

He realises there is a problem in the middle and is trying to sort it and has been over the summer, so far he has not managed to get anyone in, but like he has said before he is now waiting for the premiership to start their season so we can try and bring some quality in.

He can not do magic and all of a sudden get quinn and howard playing well together but in the same respect he also can not put square pegs in round holes. If we havent got the players to play there or the money to spend on wages what is he supposed to do.

I'd hate to be a manager and the way fans turn so quickly has made me realise why he wanted to give McCabe the option of getting rid of him last season.

What you do is drop Quinn and Howard to give someone else a chance.

Now you'll say "but who else is there that can play there?".....play a youngster if needs be. There's no harm in trying a youngster if those two aren't performing.

You sure it not Blackwell that’s the problem with signing players.
It’s already wide spread that he’s fell out with at least 7 players since he came and some just never got a game again.
Not exactly a sign of a great man manager with people skills is it?
i mean what that tell you ?

I agree that we should be patient with managers, but this does bring me back to the point I've been making for over a year now, Blackwell can't attract real proven quality.

His actual signings since he joined have been poor, which is reflected on the squad. Still plenty of time for him to prove me wrong, but I don't think he will.

You do have to wonder Jose. Considering he was under Warnock for a long time it is surprising how often he criticizes the players. Warnock hardly every gave the players stick in public, that is why most would run through brick walls for him.

Who are these 7 players then?

Secondly, the Leeds fan I was talking to says the summer here with Blackwell falling out with alot of players is what was happening there after the play-off final defeat.

I'm not saying we're going to follow in their footsteps because it's very unlikely, but it does concern me that he does fallout with players as easily as he does.

I forgot Blackwell got us to the play off final last season without any 'quality' players.

Maybe we should go back to someone like Robson then who can attract quality with high wages and then nearly get us relegated.

He did it with better players than we have in the squad right now, that's for sure.

I'm not saying that we should go back to Robson, what we need is a good manager who can attract better players if we do want to get where the board say we do.

cant post names as i could get in trouble
three wingers a goal keeper two defenders and two strikers that i know of

All rumours then and we seemed to do ok with our wingers last season and our goal keeper was fine.

Was probably more a case of these players thinking they were good enough to just turn up as I'm guessing they were Robson buys and Blackwell bringing them back down to earth.

What???
Do you read all the post or just pick the ones that go with your view ?
he’s even been to the press on about four of them so its not all rumours .
we didn’t have any winger Bar cotts who couldn’t get a game for ages, just players he put there to cover for the ones he fell out with.
surpose you forgot that paddy was on the transfer list as well due to a fall out?
wish i had you sense of close my eye's and make believe its ok but its not .
i don’t mean to argue but im not just war mongering Blackwell has a big chip on his shoulder and rubs players up the wrong way ask Leeds fans.

i don’t want to draw this in to an argument but my point of view is not just grabed from the air i remember things a draw my own conclusions.

have a look threw the post on Blackwell im sure im not the only one who thinks this.

Why is every one not bothered about the cup????

Alright we probably won't win it, But it generates money for the club, and after some of the rumours going around and the clubs general activity it would seem we could do with some money!

I think the cup can sometimes be a nice distraction and get the spirits up... trouble is we have to stay in it.....

Of course I read all the posts but I tend not to believe stuff that is paper talk until it is said live by a person or on some sort of official web site, the same goes with transfer rumours too.

And I don't close my eyes and make believe it's all ok. I can see that the midfield needs changing and if you read my other posts I have stated this.

I'm not going to keep repeating myself on the subject.

I gave my opinion which is we are two games in. I don't have a massive problem with Blackwell as he managed to get a pretty shit team playing shit football (apparently) to the play off final last season in his first full term.

This season is alot different, the squad has changed alot, players been brought in and players been moved on. It takes time for a team to gel together and Blackwell has made it clear that he is still looking into bringing more players in.

I'm hoping last night opened his eyes to the Howard Quinn situation, I'm no fan of either of them.

This is a forum and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not everyone is going to agree with each other.

I don't think it's necessarily negativity, I think it's frustration.

The cup games are pretty much nothing games for United, because we don't expect to get past Arsenal anyway (because let's face it, we'd have drawn them again) but while we might not necessarily deserve to win them, the players ought to at least put a shift in - firstly for the fans who have paid to watch the game and secondly to be respectful to the opponents, in this case, Port Vale.

The team that played on Tuesday was mostly fringe players, but these players ought to be busting their guts to get into the first team. Where we didn't have fringe players to play in the position, we put in first teamers, and these were almost as bad.

I don't know if Quinn and Howard are arrogant enough to think they deserve a start regardless of performances, but that's what it looked like.

We were talking about it on MSN last night Rachy... I'm usually as up-beat as they come about United. But I also try and tell it how I see it, and on Friday and on Tuesday I could see problems that need addressing if we're going to do anything this season. I'm not writing us off after two games, the transfer window is still open and there's still time. But it worries me that there were times last season where perhaps we weren't pulling to our full potential, and Blackwell seemed oblivious to it. To anyone who's watched them, it's obvious that Quinn and Howard cannot play in the same team. But again, will Blackwell be oblivious?

Regardless of what happens, I'll still be at the games. I don't like booing players or managers, but I can see it happening from others this season. United fans have been told to expect big things, so rightly or wrongly, they expect them and are getting increasingly impatient in waiting for them.

I also don't always necessarily think swapping and changing managers is beneficial for any club. Once you get in that cycle, it's difficult to get out of it. And Blackwell has done fairly well with what he had... only to fall at the final hurdle as the Blades always do. No one would've said at Christmas in 2007 that we could've been in with a slim shout of the play offs going into the last game of the season in May 2008. I doubt anyone at Christmas this year was really hopeful of getting to the play offs in May 2009, the way we were playing.

But if we're going to be the team that McCabe has high hopes for, we need to at least look like it on the pitch. Not scraping by through the skin of our teeth.

I think they collectively, Blackwell and the players, need a kick up the arse. I hope it happened on Tuesday night.

I'd certainly sooner come on here and vent my frustration than do it at the match. What's more negative - posting on here about the problems we've clearly got, or sitting in the stands and booing the players, management and other fans?

As far as I'm concerned, people who boo and slate the players at the matches are as much part of the problem as under performing players and iffy management.

People should use the forums, the pub or wherever else to vent their opinions or frustrations at whatever they see as being wrong, but once they walk through the turnstyles they should concentrate on supporting the players, singing loud and proud and encouraging them all they can. We should be intimidating the away team, not our own players!!!
