Negative Blackwell

I fully expect to get slaughtered with sides by all the Blackie lovers, but I cannot for the life of me understand why he, as the manager of the home team who had just equalised and were in the ascendancy, went on the defensive and was happy to settle for a point instead of pushing on to try and nick it.

We got a free kick in injury time and he was waving players back until we had just 3 players in the area. In stark contrast, when WBA got that free kick right at the death, they had everyone up bar two defenders. Before that, he takes Ward off and puts Howard on to bolster midfield. One team obviously wanted to win, one team were happy with a point. Unfortunately we were the latter. If we were the away side, I could fully understand it but we should be gunning for maximum points at home not being content to settle for not losing. Too negative for me.

Like you say if we were at the Hawthorns fair enough perhaps but then again I dont care whether we are home or away I want to see us go for the win reglardless to be honest.

I didn't see us in the ascendency to be honest. We got a break with the penalty but hadn't really looked anything like we did in the first half. With Killa having the mare of all mares, I think it was OK to secure the point first.

Henderson was getting no change out of the referee, so why bomb it to him everytime. your post seems to demonstrate that we HAD a plan B. We were the better side in the first half,mixing up direct football,wing play and passing the ball on the deck.Indeed in was West Brom who resorted to 'Wimbledon ' syle of play on the first half.

As your post confirms,West Brom got to grips with this in the 2nd half so we played off Henderson,getting the ball directly to him then hitting the ball wide where possible.

Whilst I disagree with some of KB's substitutions,he did mix up the style of play .

I'm happy to criticise Blackwell at every opportunity but in this case when you have equalised twice against a decent side it is fair enough to try and protect that a bit. It would have been great to pinch a winner and I think we got forward as much as they did at 2-2. It's not as easy as saying let's go for it now, there is an opposition who may have other ideas.

Having said that, I couldn't think of any player least likely to shore things up than Howard and we desperately need a few re-inforcements in all areas

Can understand what you are saying, but having secured a point we are now 2 points off the lead and have kept the unbeaten run going. If we had lost we would have been 5 points behind and gone into the 2 week break on the back of a defeat. Blackwell obviously thought a point more worthwhile than the risk of losing.

I wouldnt say Moore looked lightning quick to me.

We definately need other players to come in, and soon.
But Blackwell frequently brings in squad players and it's first team players we need.
And, they need to be players with better technique than present first teamers. One of the thing which impresses me about WBA was that they had players to calm it down and then inject technique in their passing movements.
And, I still don't get the Henderson/ Evans partnership...a total lack of interplay.

You need to have the ball to try and win it and West Brom, to their credit, kept the ball and consequently looked more likely to score after our 2nd equaliser. I'm sure if we'd had more possesion we would have gone for the winner too.

I do and it still doesn't change my perception that Blackie is a negative manager who will try and tease a result out instead of trying to win the game. I don't have it in for Blackie no-matter-what like a lot did for Warnock, he's just not my type of manager that's all, but I would still kiss his big fat ugly face if he got us promoted...
