This guy sums up the pork for me , a stadium that is half empty for nine tenths of a season is obviously not too small

This is my favourite bit, absolutely superb:

Exactly and from here on in I doubt that we (Wednesdayites) will ever have the right to fully utilise the Leppings Lane end again. As it stands with a wave of optimism for the future running through the club, Our capacity (for Wednesdayites) is probably around the 30K mark give or take a few. With demand outstripping supply even by as little as 25% this would mean we needed, needed not wanted, the capacity for home fans of at least 45K. OK lets be conservative and say the 38.5K we had in on Saturday. However, with the Mancs, Lancs, Geordies and Midland sides waiting in the wings, not to menton local derbies all would be elligable for the entire allocation of away seats in the Leppings Lane under current SYP, SAG and football authority guidelines. That little lot could equate to half of our home programme each year.

To wait while we consolidate is the question, but what would be the cost of waiting these three or four seasons while we try and consolidate ? Assuming 9 fixtures per year with a 50K capcity sold 90% of that capacity 45k as oppsed to our current 38K. This equates to 7,000 extra fans at 9 games X 4 seasons =more than five and a half million quid.

Given that they got the fans out to paint the steps, would they want the fans to build the extension too?

They truly are delusional. I can't advocate humility enough: the only thing worse than a sore loser is a bad winner.

NE Blade that bloke has a real issue with basic economics. Firstly, their demand hasn't ever outstripped supply by 25% and even if it did, demand of 125% of a 30,000 home capacity would be 37,500 seats...not 45,000.

Mid-table obscurity for them next year: a play-off push at best. That said, I predicted 14th for us this season which shows how much I know!

It'd just make it much more of a pain to go round cleaning bird shit off all the unused seats when they're back in League One the season after next.

Despite the odd outbursts of lunacy that thread contains some excellent and very measured debate with a huge chunk of realism by the majority of the posters.

I don't have a favourite bit. As Morrissey once said, I'm afraid it doesn't make me smile.

It makes me sick to think that they're even contemplating ground expansion and the Premier League whilst we're scratting around hoping we can overcome the likes of Stevenage then MK Dons or Huddersfield just for the privilege of joining them in the second tier of English football.

Expand why?

They only sell it out when its a "big" game so to speak.

They haven't averaged 30,000 since the 60's have they? They didn't even manage it when they qualified for Europe under Francis. We, on the other hand, averaged 30,000 under Warnock despite being relegated.
