Yes we desperately need centre halves, but we also need someone to protect them aswell and he would do that better than anything we have at the moment. He is a leader too which we desperately need.

Disregarding him because he also played in a losing team this weekend is ridiculous. Per Mertesacker played in a losing Arsenal team this weekend, would you not take him in our defence either then by using that logic?

I was using the same logic as you; i.e. we lost at the weekend and therefore should have signed Bishop. While I'm sure you will point to the manner of the loss, I've posted elsewhere my belief that the midfield and attack suffered hugely due to a frankly disgraceful defensive setup.

Basham is the player who fills the Bishop role, and based on his performances towards the end of last season, I have no desire to see him swapped out for a player in the twilight years of his career who could only get a contract at Scunthorpe upon being available.

If this is a target it proves two things to me

1. Basham is not a central midfielder - I knew that already as I have never seen him boss a game in the way that we need a midfielder to do

2. James Wallace is fucked

Bishop isn't good enough for a team aiming to win league one. However we just got smashed 4-0 by Gillingham. I think top 6 is the best we can achieve this season
