Ndlovu arrest over attack on girlfriend
TROUBLED former Zimbabwe soccer team captain Peter Ndlovu was arrested this week over an alleged assault of his PREGNANT live-in girlfriend, reports from South Africa said on Thursday.
The out-of-job 36-year-old striker handed himself over to the police on Monday after Pinky Duda, 30, filed charges.
Duda claims the former Malelodi Sundowns and Thanda Royal Zulu striker punched her repeatedly and smashed windows at a Johannesburg pad they share after a row over the striker’s alleged womanising.
She blew her top when Ndlovu kept receiving calls from an ex-girlfriend he claimed he had split from. She admitted pushing the striker in the heat of the moment.
But Ndlovu flew into a rage, allegedly punching Duda in front of her three-year-old son.
She told the Sowetan: “We argued and I pushed him. He then started to punch me in my face with fists.
“I sustained injuries on my left hand and bruises on my face.”
She claimed divorcee Ndlovu briefly left their townhouse in Lyndhurst and returned with a car jack. He started smashing windows in the house, she said.
“He was assaulting me in front of my three-year-old son,” she claimed.
Prosecutors said the charges were dropped on Wednesday after the wrangling couple’s families held crisis talks.
Ndlovu has at least five children with five different women. FOUR women are currently claiming maintenance from him, including his ex-wife, Sharon Dee.
Sharon Dee was in court last week with Ndlovu where they resolved to settle the matter out of court. She is demanding at least R36,000 per month from the 100-cap former Zimbabwe star for their two children.
Ndlovu originally denied paternity of his two sons until a court-ordered DNA test showed he was the father of his ex-wife’s two boys.
Alice Thabulo, the striker’s former mistress, sued for maintenance in 2004. She currently draws R2,000 from the striker every month.
Harare woman Amina Esof also successfully claimed for maintenance after a lengthy court battle.
In February last year, Ndlovu’s legendary bed-hopping saw a Pretoria woman, Ntswaki Khathong, claiming that she had miscarried his baby. She told reporters the striker had told her he was singe until she found out about his wife "and other women".
Ndlovu’s dramatic fall from grace has alarmed friends who fear the star is “losing it”. His denial of paternity of his two sons with Sharon Dee left close friends fuming, many fearing he was badly advised.
Ndlovu started his football career at Highlanders before a move to then English Premier League club Coventry in 1992. He had spells at Birmingham City, Huddersfield and Sheffield United before his move to join Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004.
Ndlovu was released from his contract by Thanda Royal Zulu at the end of last season after they were relegated from South Africa’s top division. He must now find a job against mounting legal woes.
